Newcastle In Pole Position To Sign England U21 International Left Back

TEAMtalk are reporting in an exclusive today that Newcastle are in talks with Southampton about signing England U21 international Matt Targett on loan for the season.

Targett stands 6ft tall and usually plays at left-back, but he can also play on the left wing and if we can get this lad into Newcastle he will definitely offer competition to Paul Dummett for the starting left-back place.

Targett has already played 40 times for the Southampton first team and has played 12 times for the England U21 side, so he’s a very good young player at just 21 years old.

England U21 international Matt Targett of Southampton

He made his debut for the Saints back in August 2014 in a League Cup second-round game at Millwall when he was just 17.

Ryan Bertrand and Sam McQueen are ahead of him at the south coast club and Southampton want him to get first team games out on loan this season.

He signed a new five-year deal earlier this month but the news from TEAMtalk is that Newcastle are firm favorites to sign him today.

We hope that’s true.

Matt was born in the Southampton suburb of Eastleigh and has been at the Saints since 2004 when he was just eight years old and he came through the famous Southampton Youth Academy.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle can agree to get an option to buy clause put in the loan deal – but we doubt it.

What do you think?

Can someone please press the fast forward button til 11pm?
This media wet dream is finally coming to its climax..
My advice, for what it’s worth, is go out for the day. What will be will be.

On Carroll, I can’t see it, and really hope it doesn’t happen.
He will think he still deserves huge wages, West Ham will want 20mill plus..
If there was ever a case for a pay-as-you-play type of deal, Andy is it.
But there is no way he will do that, I wouldn’t have thought.
    It’s Charnley / Ashley’s move today, Rafa’s move tomorrow..

Nothing’s going to happen, Rafa probably knew for weeks, it’s bull crap, so much for him saying who’s in and out, I’ve said it for a long time, we will go down if no big players come in, Mitrovic suspended, Gayle and perez haven’t done anything, it’s a joke, we are in trouble, when I had an argument with a few at the same time, saying there’s plenty of time, blah blah blah, I turned round and said come back to me when the window finishes, I know it’s not finished yet but nothing will happen.

Orestis Karnezis, Udinese’s Greek international goalkeeper , who Rafa really rates, looks like he’s going to Watford.
No surprise there – his agent said that weeks ago – and of course both clubs are owned by the Pozzo family.
However the clubs thinking on Freddie Woodman may have altered as he seems to be coming on by leaps and bounds.
His story is remarkably close to that of Pepe Reina.
    Both sons of goalkeepers.
PR was playing the odd game for Barcelona first team in his late teens and by the time he was Freddie’s age was first choice goalie for Villareal.
We may just have a jewel on our hands.

Colback now being linked with Sunderland.

We keep hearing about how we have to get rid of players before we can sign any, why is that, we’ve only signed 6, 5 in reality because Atsu was here last season and we must have got rid of 15/16 or so players, surely even without getting rid of any more we still have roon to accomodate another 2/3 players.

The difference between a relegation scrap and mid-table mediocrity is Rafa Benitez. Regardless of how today goes down Rafa Benitez has been well and truly ticked off with how Ashley conducts transfer business and as a result of that is no longer viewing our club as a long-term option.

Let that sink in for a second.

A man who has won La Liga titles, Champions League titles, a regular top 4 in the Premier League and has even managed one of the biggest clubs in world football wants to stay at Newcastle United, but due to the actions of Mike Ashley is no longer willing to embark on a long-term project here.

Had Mike Ashley chosen to change the way he runs the club and actually allow Rafa to pursue his targets to bolster the squad, not only would we have had a much stronger squad capable of challenging in the top half, but we would have had a world-class manager who was happy in his job.

As it stands, our squad is marginally better but our manager is significantly more pissed off and I can’t see him being here this time next year.
