The Sun is reporting this afternoon that Newcastle are interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Valon Berisha.
Leicester City are also said to be interested, but that’s it’s Newcastle who are more interested in getting the player on a loan move with an option to buy for £12M.
Berisha was born in Sweden after his family moved there from Kosovo and he played in Norway both Egersund and Viking before he moved to Red Bull in 2012.
While in Norway he played for all the Norway Youth sides and then 20 times for the Norway national team, and was one of the best players in the country.
The player is on International duty for Kosovo (6 caps, one goal) who he has been playing for since last year, but as usual, with less than six hours left in the window, the question is whether a deal can be struck in time.
24-year-old Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Valon Berisha
Berisha has played 199 times for Red Bull with 36 goals and 56 assists, but Newcastle will need to be very nimble if they are to get this deal done tonight – it looks unlikely.
So far today Newcastle have not brought one single player in., but it looks like Tim Krul will be going on loan for the season to Brighton and Achraf Lazaar will still be moving to Benevento on loan after reports that he could be staying on Tyneside.
But it looks like Tim Krul will be going on loan for the season to Brighton & Hove Albion and Achraf Lazaar will still be moving to Benevento on loan after reports that he could be staying on Tyneside.
There’s also a possibility we will get Southampton left-back Matt Targett on loan for the season, but if we cannot get him through the door tonight, it’s likely Rafa will keep Lazaar for cover at left back and left wing.
It also looks like the season loan bid for Kenedy from Chelsea is off.
🙁
What do you think?

Comment #2It all sounds a bit desperate to me.
I don’t know if Rafa has experienced this sort of last minute madness before at other clubs.
If not, it’ll certainly be a real wake up call.

Comment #3I hate the transfer windows. We get our hopes up only to have them dashed time and time again. My biggest fear is that Rafa decides he can’t stand it anymore and walks. That would be a disaster. At this stage, if we sign no-one else but Rafa stays and is still fired up I would consider that a win!

Comment #9Matt Targett is a solid left back – with a bit of time under Rafa I would expect him to take the spot off Dummett. Having said that I think Mbemba has the potential to be better than both by a stretch with a run of games and a bit of focused training.
This is a really sorry state of affairs though – these pie in the sky links with players on the continent last minute just ridiculous. Charnley should walk after this – he’s proven time and time again he is not agile or flexible enough to operate at this level.

Comment #12Another window comes and goes with the same bull as everyone really thought this one would be different with Rafa in charge of first full season in prem but again it’s the same old drivel couldn’t get this one over the line rubbish Rafa now showing he’s the same as pardew, mclaren just yes men to Ashley. Another promise of players coming in to sell us mugs season tickets then before first game comes out and says there’s nothing hard to take when championship clubs are willing to spend more. Relegation now looking more likely since all our rivals have done great business ah well always January

Comment #16I said Monday if we didnt get anyone in that day I couldn’t see us signing anyone else.
I’ve seen more movement in a morgue than Nufc on deadline day.
Its plain to see its been Thursday and nothing else, like the rest of the window a pain for Ashley. Despite turning a profit every year we have no money to spend on players, the owner wont loan us money as there’s no asset for him to strip no advertising etc.
I like the look of the players Rafa has signed yet its obvious we’re woefully short in certain areas. Just think next year we’ll have made more profit we can’t spend, unfortunately there’ll be no Ra
We’ve had two world class managers in my time and both have been treat like shit..
I like most hope someone decent comes in but I feel its all in vain

Mbemba is right sided though, and is primarily a cb. His recent and sudden willingness to follow instruction and apply himself means he is going to be hard to drop. If clarke and lejunne end up as the cb pairing, we might see mbemba at dmf

Comment #18Year after year of this disappointment at the end of every window.
But this year we knew we would have plenty of money to spend and had a great manager and were ready to have a go at it. Many thought we had £70m to spend and many stated this may not be enough.
And yet, after all that the club go out and spend about £6m and still manage to save a ton on wages meaning we will not have invested any extra money in the team.
This time it is beyond catastrophic. I simply cannot believe it.

Comment #21In all seriousness how long does everyone give Rafa?
I am certain he will give it his best this season to keep us up for the fans sake, but will have his management team putting a deal into place for next summer where his contract is bought out. There’s no way on earth he’s staying any longer than that now – he’s pretty much said he’s not thinking long term anymore after last close season starting to put foundations in place.

Yeah he is but we have cover there, and he’s athletic, fast and quite strong, excellent tackler so is tailor made for full back really so if he is given that chance at left back i expect him to outperform Targett and Dummett, especially going forward. Although Targett has a sweet left foot.

Comment #27What effect will saying Gayle is not good is not good enough for the Premiership have on him? If indeed it was ever said. Will he just be left to rot on the bench till Christmas or will it spur him on to greater heights. Surely he will be in the squad for next three games at least with Mitro suspended.

Comment #29remember in january rafa was saying we would get players. time and time again up to end of window and even on the last day he remained confident a couple of top players would come in.
in this window it has been the same. he has told us we dont have much money but even when he announced that it was clear there was still money for transfers. then he said we had to sell players but i feel he still knew there was money on top of that. so then we go and sell some of those fringe players and yet they still have not got anyone decent in.
Im gobsmacked. In fact no, Im an idiot for convincing myself it would be different this time around.

Comment #33i expect rafa to leave the club within a month really, i didn’t take anything from the west ham game because there just as bad as we are, lets all be truthful here the team is crap they haven’t done the signings they should have done and Ashley has moved the goalposts yet again but i don’t think rafa will put up with this hes to good a manager, Ashley has no ambition bar take money out of our club so he can build his clothing empire up out of our profits and free advertising then add the bullshit about a Chinese consortium wanting to buy the club was a smokescreen to sell season tickets that was it its not as though he hasn’t done this before he has, until fans stop going to st james this will continue

Comment #36After listening to Slank earlier, I think I know what’s happened here.
When Benitez was told he “needed to sell so that he could buy,” he’s MISINTERPRETED that as “sell so he could buy PLAYERS!”
Dopey Spanish Sausage!
I’m expecting a signing though, even if Charnley is desperately batting for stumps.

Comment #37If we can’t even get a young non playing left back over the line domestically then what hope do we have?
I’d snap hands off to sell Gayle for 15 mill if it had happened last week and there was realistic replacements – we are never going to be able to play to his strengths this year.

Comment #39I think we’re gonna need a showstopper here to keep the natives happy… There is bound to be money in the club… I bet the accounts haven’t been updated to reflect the contracts that were amortised when they were signed by those that have been sent elsewhere!

Comment #40Clearly the likes of Lejeune, Merino and Joselu were probably our genuine targets and all are very good players.
If we get the missing Keeper in then surely the blindingly obvious miss is signing a striker or was Perez a nearly done deal that went pear shaped ?
Left back we need as I’m sure Rafa wants two players per position for a squad of 24 plus one spare.
I’ll be happier
