The Sun is reporting this afternoon that Newcastle are interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Valon Berisha.
Leicester City are also said to be interested, but that’s it’s Newcastle who are more interested in getting the player on a loan move with an option to buy for £12M.
Berisha was born in Sweden after his family moved there from Kosovo and he played in Norway both Egersund and Viking before he moved to Red Bull in 2012.
While in Norway he played for all the Norway Youth sides and then 20 times for the Norway national team, and was one of the best players in the country.
The player is on International duty for Kosovo (6 caps, one goal) who he has been playing for since last year, but as usual, with less than six hours left in the window, the question is whether a deal can be struck in time.
24-year-old Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Valon Berisha
Berisha has played 199 times for Red Bull with 36 goals and 56 assists, but Newcastle will need to be very nimble if they are to get this deal done tonight – it looks unlikely.
So far today Newcastle have not brought one single player in., but it looks like Tim Krul will be going on loan for the season to Brighton and Achraf Lazaar will still be moving to Benevento on loan after reports that he could be staying on Tyneside.
But it looks like Tim Krul will be going on loan for the season to Brighton & Hove Albion and Achraf Lazaar will still be moving to Benevento on loan after reports that he could be staying on Tyneside.
There’s also a possibility we will get Southampton left-back Matt Targett on loan for the season, but if we cannot get him through the door tonight, it’s likely Rafa will keep Lazaar for cover at left back and left wing.
It also looks like the season loan bid for Kenedy from Chelsea is off.
🙁
What do you think?

Comment #94From Official NUFC website we have after today’s departures 25 registered 1st Team Players ;
3 Goalkeepers : Darlow Elliott Woodman
10 Defenders : Clark Dummett Lascelles Mbemba Lejeune Manquillo Yedlin
plus Sherry, Haidara, Gamez – unlikely to feature
8 Midfielders : Aarons, Atsu, Ritchie,Diame, Hayden, Merino,Shelvey & of course Saviet
5 Forwards : Gayle, Mitrovitch,Joselu plus Perez & Murphy J who can not really be classed as strikers
We already have several injuries such as Dummett & Lejeune.Mitrovitch suspended 3 games. More injuries & suspensions & we will struggle to name a full bench.
It’s a suicide recipe in view of the injuries suffered in previous seasons. Must be weakest NUFC squad in past 30 years.
Please forward this to Mr. Ashley.

Comment #97Ive got to be honest Im now seriously wondering why rafa would stay. hes one of the greatest managers on the planet just look at that photo of him at the euro elite conference with all those other guys. He is in a league where even mid table clubs spend a ton. And to get to the top it would take a fortune. Even a mid table finish will cost money. And yet his club have a whole summer and spend nothing even though he was expecting a lot to be spent. So why stay?
He could be offered the west ham job soon and they will give him the money to compete and enjoy his work.
Im not sure he will stay much longer now after this.

1) this player is at salzburg which is austria not germany
2) the german window is shut but ours is open so we can still buy. German teams just cant.
3) does it matter anyway when we arent gonna sign anyone

Comment #100This is old news; no-one’s coming. I just think we should take a moment to consider how fortunate we are to have an owner like Ashley. His integrity, honesty and commitment is incredibly refreshing. Saying that, I’m hoping to sober up by 11 pm.

Comment #103We really need Adam Armstrong & Ivan Toney back off loan but don’t suppose there is a get out clause. Also remember we had a goalkeeper crisis when Krul first got injured quickly followed by Elliott , well same could happen again. After all history has a way of repeating itself with the Toon!

Wenger will leave arsenal and they’ll come for Rafa. Theyve missed out on their chance to grab up any better manager (Klopp and Guardiola were once very interested in succeeding Wenger)

Comment #107I’m sitting here watching the Transfer Centre on Sky as player after player is announced to be joining other clubs.
Never felt this deflated since I was a young lad with my nose pressed against the toy shop window as other kids came and went with new things to play with.
I realise nothing will change under Mr Ashley. Even if we should get relegated he’ll just shrug it off as a gamble that went sour.

Comment #108WestLancs – the fact that you’ve listed “the 25” is indicative of the fact that this is and was always going to be the squad from weeks ago, just as Ashley wanted – on budget.
I suspect that Rafa’s 25 looks quite different.
Colback has gone AWOL from the list but guess he’s in no mans land if not moved on today.
Forwards – we need goals and for that we need more fire power – that looks like the problem

West Ham spent pretty solid amount of money this summer but that didn’t make them the better side in the last game.
Though, wouldn’t mind players in positions where we lack, quality forward, like Perez, and AM.

Comment #113I’ll say again- really appreciate your optimism Markaccus. If the twenty who have left wouldn’t have kicked a ball the remaining chosen few certainly will if they can get near enough to the opposition as we are now down to the bare bones.
No sign of excess fat on this lot – they will have to work their socks off.

Comment #114A summer of frustration and disbelief. Did anyone expect anything else? History suggests to expect nothing but staggering decisions of inepitude. We all know the money is there..we all know we need reinforcements at left back, up front and midfield..but once again like previous relegation seasons we are woefully short in certain areas. I simply cannot believe, as a business model and by that i mean staying in the premier league as a means to reap major finacial rewards, we are gambling our position in the division once again. Enough is enough now…i feel sick to the pit of my stomach and until this disgusting regime has gone i simply no longer care. Rafa..we love you but you do not deserve Ashley and his cronies abusing your talents ….

Comment #115Yes Best transfer window ever. Kept net spend to a absolute minimum managed to bring in a lot of quality which will easily keep us up and managed to get rid of the dead wood. Rafa must be over the moon if only Brighton and Huddersfield showed some ambition they may have had a chance to stay up too.
Back to reality Rafa must be so fcuked off with the shower of shite above, he can’t even persuade a 3rd choice lb to come on loan. Rafa wanted a GK didn’t get one a LB didn’t get one a striker for the Prem got Joselu for 5m. Joke of a club!
