Newcastle Make Bid For Brazilian International Goalkeeper With Krul Likely Leaving On Loan

This is a follow-on to the news today that Tim Krul is on his way to Brighton for a medical today and there is a BBC report is that we have bid for 27-year-old Napoli goalkeeper Rafael Cabral.

Rafa Benitez can now bring in another goalkeeper which he’s been wanting to do all summer.

But he couldn’t do that until Tim left the club, otherwise, we would still have Tim’s wages as part of the wage bill and it wouldn’t have made any financial sense.

One of the goalkeepers we have been linked with is Napoli’s second string Rafael Cabral who has been the backup to Pepe Reina.

27-year-old Napoli goalkeeper Rafael Cabral

Here is what BBC World Service broadcaster Steve Crossman has just tweeted.

Cabral has appeared 45 times for Napoli and and has three full caps for Brazil.

And we suppose Rafa Benitez must rate the goalkeeper as something better than we have in Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow at the moment.

What do you think?

The scary thing is, if we do hang on by the skin of our teeth and stay up this season, Ashley might still withhold a large chunk of that increased income we’re all expecting next season. The likes of Stoke, West Brom, etc. might still end up eclipsing us in the transfer market.

I’ve been upbeat and positive up until today, but the lack of support Rafa is getting is a little concerning now.

If he doesn’t give Rafa any money to spend today, Rafa would be better walking rather than be blamed by Cashley for the teams subsequent poor performances. That must be the big man’s “plan”.
Naturally would like Rafa to stay but surely he can only put up with so much?

Three things we have known for 9 years and confirmed again this summer.
    Ashley is a skin flint
He has no interest in the club except as a means to make money for himself
He will not tolerate independent managers and treats the mugs, sorry I mean fans, with utter contempt.
Ashleys definition of football heaven is for him to spend nowt on players and next to nowt on wages and we finish 17th.
Three things we know will happen this season:
We will not sign anybody today. Just failed to get them over the line apparently.
The Toon is “no longer a long term plan” for Rafa and will be gone at the end of the season, if not earlier.
If we survive this season we will get a muppet manager next season and we will implode again.
STAY away. Wasting your time and emotions on a dysfunctional club.

Not sure about Benitez fixation about getting another keeper.

    Not a priority to me.

Would have thought Elliott, Darlow and Woodman were enough although Woodman probably needs game time, hence a loan move.

Only hope this new Benitez keeper is better than the last one he bought.

That’s good, but not as good as sky sports news, if you look at what swans have done today you will see Renato Sanchez from Bayern Munich on a loan and Close to resigning Bony for £12 million, meanwhile in the north east…………………… Nothing.

What an embarrassment. When you see how hard every other club is working and getting things done where needed – we are a total joke in comparison.

Shocking window and if we are in the mire by Xmas then it is fully deserved. Anything more and I will be grateful to Rafa and his team and the players for giving it a go despite huge lack of quality.

People getting way to excited on here today. We’ve signed 6 players and cleared most of the deadwood. That’s already a good window in my books. If we sign a couple more which I’m sure we will it will have been a very good window.
All this nonsense about our rivals doing great business is just that nonsense. About half have spent more than us (half haven’t of course!) and none by more than about £10 million which is what, one half decent squad player these days. It barely pays for a loan fee.
Just everyone calm down. Whatever happens we have a decent squad and a better manager than all our rivals.
