Who Was Newcastle’s Best Signing This Summer?

We were so disappointed and shocked at Newcastle not signing one player over the last two weeks of the transfer window that we didn’t put out a poll on who you think was Newcastle’s best signing.

The six players brought in were all good deals for players who can improve under manager Rafa Benitez, but we didn’t bring in any stars or higher priced players.

Let us know who you think was the signing of the summer for Newcastle – we’ve listed the players in the order they were signed this summer.

Rafa Benitez – brought in six decent players this summer

Can’t definitively say right now after only a few games but I think Joselu will end up being the best signing, over the next 3 games i’d back him to score another few goals for us and could end up being the 15+ goals a season striker (like Llorente) except he’s got 5 years on him and coming in to his prime, we may struggle to hold on to him if he has the season I think he could

Merino could potentially be a very clever signing, but it’s the only one I am really thrilled about to be honest.

Lejeune and Atsu are good squad players that add depth.

Manquillo and Hoosy Loo are reminiscent of signings of last season such as Lazaar and Murphy.

Young Murphy is one for the future and just too expensive for this season. We needed a prolific goalscorer.

The best signing this summer was Rafa on his 3 year contract.

For me they all look good signings.
Lejeune looks very composedon the ball.
    Merino looks a real talent.
Murphy could prove a great signing once he gets a run in the side.
    Manquillo a steady defender
Atsu has improved on last season.

I’m happy with those we’ve signed. The ones we didn’t sign are why Ashley needs to go. Holding us back.

Season in effect for me starts this weekend. All the turmoil, shenanigans, uncertainty, expectations surrounding the transfer window are now in the past.
Rafa will have to work with what he has now.
But a comment about the window needs to be made – Rafa was misled/shafted. Mr Tubbs has previous for lying/deception (Benitez has not). Incredulous that some were profering outlandish reasons to suggest there was no fault by Mr Tubbs but at the same time stating they did not support the Mr Tubbs regime.

This weekend – I think Rafa should not start Shelvey straight off – perhaps bring him on in the second half.
I am not optimistic about us getting a result.

One or two doing doing a Jib -in posting information -without abuse – might catch on.

Veltman, If you are outside the UK, you could get a VPN to give you a UK IP address. Or reading the previous post, maybe the account can be set up in the UK and used abroad. If that was the case then someone in the UK could register you an account and you could use it from where you are. Just a thought; not based on any knowledge. Do you have an account at ‘Ask Jib’? If so you could try that for the infop you require.

On the wages figure, that’s obviously a bit of Mikey PR. I’m guessing the figure is for all the wages throughtout the entire club, not just the first team squad. If that didn’t prove high enough to make his point, he probably just added some to the figure.

Mikey says he personally takes no money out of the club (ie wages and dividends). But I wonder how much money is paid from the club to his other companies. Things like lost revenue to SD on the club shop sales, PR bills going to Mikey’s Bishop PR company, savings on the puma kit deal, money to ‘Mikey’s beer n pies inc’ etc.

I was very impressed with Merino against West Ham but that was only one game against a poor team. I went for Lejeune because he has looked good in all the games I’ve seen him and was having an excellent game against Spurs until he was assaulted by Kane.

Rafa was our best signing this summer!

I may not agree with his selections or formations but I have complete faith we’ll win more than we lose with him at the helm.

Any of the players we signed wouldn’t be missed half as much as Rafa and thinking who would replace him chills me to the bone!

Mbemba out for a while with hamstring. I think Rafa signed so many left backs, when he was with Liverpool, because he could sense this dilema coming. A true football mystic.

Some very good players in. We’ll learn more about them as the season continues. Too soon to say who was the best signing. We needed our best signing to be a top striker or AMF. That failure will cause us all kinds of problems.

As I see it the team for the weekend more or less picks itself, especially with Mbemba out now.

The only possible changes might be Yedlin or Sterry at RB but unlikely.

Shelvey for Merino, but I suspect JonJo will start on the bench partially cos Merino has shown some good form and partially cos Rafa will not pander to his ego.

The only other change might be Gayle for Joselu but again I have the feeling that Rafa might be loath to start him in case he develops a hammy problem from the depths of his psyche.

We signed 6 players, all of which – bar Murphy (for now) – are 1st team players.

I think we had a good window. Even with Mbemba injured we can play Clark or Manquillo (or the ginger pirlo) there as Lejeune and Yedlin are back. Merino is class, as is Hayden. Ritchie plays out of his skin and we still have Shelvey to come back in. We have three pacey young wingers in Atsu, Aarons and Murphy. We have a steady number 1 and England’s new hope in reserve. We have Gayle, Joselu and Mitro and Perez up front – there’s goals in all of these 4.

We tried to sign more. Transfers are a two-way street. The players themselves have to want to come.

We need a full season unde Rafa to convince many of the better players to play for us. We don’t need mercs like what the detritus of the prem have signed, for quite frankly, fcuking stupid amounts of money.

    Roll on Sunday!

Lejuene,Merino,Atsu,Joselu,Murphy and Manquillo in that order for me.

Manquillo is not bad getting forward but is a dog sh1t defender worse than Santon for getting caught out. Murphy from what little I have seen doesn’t feel me with a lot of confidence hopefully he will get better.

Joselu looked very good on his debut great touch and hold up play. Atsu is hot and cold but gives us pace and a threat going forward. Merino looks like he could be a great signing classy player. Lejuene is so much better than Lascelles, wins everything in the air and no doubt will form a good partnership with Clark.

Main injury doubt for the weekend is Rafa.
Many outlets reporting he has had an infection following a hernia op 2 years ago.

No doubt this will provide the hysterical handbag hoyers another reason why Rafa misunderstood Mr Tubbs
promises -along the lines of – “Rafa was in pain and therefore not able to concentrate on what Mr Tubbs said”.

Atsu has to be classed as our best signing, at least for several games to come. Our other new players have a lot to prove yet.
One good performance against a very poor West Ham is not a basis to vote on players yet.

Should we not start with both Shelvey and Merino?

    My suggested swansea lineup:

    Yedlin – – – Lejeune – – – Clark – – – Manquillo

    – – – – – – – – Shelvey – – – Hayden – – – – – – – –

    Ritchie – – – – – – – – – Merino – – – – – Atsu – – –

    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – Joselu – – – – – – – – – – – –

Mitro/Perez/Murphy coming off the bench. I can’t understand why our most expensive signing is not even coming off the bench in every game at the very least.

The assumption from the above lineup is Mbemba not being fit. If he is – Clark at LB and Mbemba partnering Lejeune.

    Even at full strength – I think our best back 4 is: Yedlin – – Lejeune – – Mbemba – – Clark

MA has always liked a good gamble, there will be money available in January if desperately needed, it’s his way of keeping the club self sufficient. He likes to build up a large pot. Look forward to next summers transfer window they’ll be plenty of coin available then, just hope Rafa is still here to spend it or the Regime will take over again.
