Rafa Incapacitated – Not Able To Take Newcastle Training

It turns out according to the Chronicle that Rafa Benitez underwent an operation during the international break last Friday and has missed training so far this week.

We haven;t heard much at all from Rafa the last two days and o=maybe one reason for that is he’s missed the training after going under the knife in Cheshire.

The Chronicle reports it was to deal with a complication from a hernia operation he had more than two years ago.

Rafa is still recovering from the surgery so we’ll have to see if he can take the press conference tomorrow and it may be good the game is not until Sunday afternoon.

There is a chance the Spaniard could be back on Tyneside as early as today with a source saying the manager is “assessing his fitness one day at a time.”

Rafa Benitez – in less painful times

There is a chance of course that he may not be fit for the game at Swansea on Sunday, but we’ll just have to hope he gives his press conference on Friday and that will be a huge relief if he can do that.

The conspiracy theorists will probably be out in full force saying this is linked to Rafa’s huge disappointment with Mike Ashley during the summer transfer window, but there’s no evidence of that.

We hope Rafa returns soon – we need him.

Comments welcome.

Not sure how anyone could link having to have an operation could be linked to transfer window but I guess some one this blog (including Ed) seem to be blaming all events to it so why not

Get well soon Rafa, don’t worry about team selection though, there are enough of us on here who can help you out with that. 🙂
    Yedlin Lascelles Lejuene Clark
    Jonjo Merino
    Ritchie Atsu

Could be worth packing the midfield vs the Swans. They like possession and we can get sanches out of the game straight away. Maybe stick gayle in for a game if we are aiming for the counter attack, Jonjo and Merino pinging them over the top for him.
    Just my 2 pennies worth

If Rafa was reported to have had a pained expression when he left the Training Ground last week – now we know why. Infection following hernia op – ouch.
Get well soon Mr. Benitez, hope Mrs. Benitez is wiping your fevered brow.
