This Player To Remain Out In The Cold At Newcastle

Jack Colback has made 102 total appearances for Newcastle with 5 goals and 10 assists it looks like that will be his final record at Newcastle for the local lad.

For some reason, there has been some bad blood build up over the summer between Jack and manager Rafa Benitez.

It probably emanates from the time this summer when Jack refused to join the first team training to make up the numbers up when asked to by Rafa.

Jack has been training with the U23 side, and it looks like he will continue to do that even though he’s been named in the Newcastle 25 player squad for the Premier League.

Jack Colback playing against Derby last season

This is what Rafa has said in the Chronicle today when asked if any of our fringe players will be considered for the game today against Stoke:

“We have to be sure that every single player is working hard and trying to improve even if they’re not playing.”

“If they do that, then the team will be better,”

“Even those players who were out of the squad in my head in the transfer window, now they are in the squad and I will try to improve them.

“That includes anyone with us but Jack, he knew my ideas before and he knows my ideas now.”

“It’s important for me to have a group of players, and the number of players, you can manage.”

“Sometimes you have too many players and you have to leave some out.”

“But to have players training on their own, I don’t think that’s a good situation.

“Instead you have to be training with a team as Colback is with the U23s.”

This doesn’t look good for Jack, but it seems Rafa is laying down the law with the local lad, who will now probably leave the club either permanently or on loan this January.

The problem with moving Jack on will be his massive £70K/week wages after he signed for us as a free agent just over three years ago from Sunderland.

At that time he signed a five-year deal with Newcastle, so his contract has almost two years still to run.

Comments welcome.

I still don’t believe his wages are 70G a week! Not sure where that figure originated.
Something stinks about what has gone on with Jack. He was a regular pick for Rafa at one point. He never seemed to be the type to refuse to do anything he was told, always described as a solid pro.
I have no reason to wonder it, but could it be connected with lifestyle / off field issues? There was something about some unwise betting hobby previously. Could be miles wide of the mark of course.

As long as the mention of wages does not bring oot the Blog financial experts, again, on matchday!
Hopefully no formations, either or a rotating captain.
But, no doubt, there’ll be fights, a-plenty, once the protagonists have some vitriol to fill their handbags with!

If anyone can’t see that to progress we have to upgrade positions filled by Colback, Dummett, Perez then they should join the rugby forum on here. Honestly. They are good workers because they are good professionals. But they’ve been the backbone in relegation sides for goodness sake!

Hopefully Merino, Hayden, Shelvey and even Diame keep Jack away from the first team picture!

Yes, I think most people can see that (re upgrading). I was making a point that it seemed out of character for Colback to throw his teddies out of the cot in the way that was reported (because he always seemed a solid pro / hard worker). Not being 1st choice wouldn’t be it I think. Would love to know what has happened.

Hibbit, where did this 70k figure come from?
You’re usually close to the mark, and 35k sounds about right.
Doubt he was on much, doon the road!

Talking of miss quoted figures, I am guilty of using Jack Roots comment that the winner of the FA Cup got £20m. I should have know to double check the source.

Am in North Shields/Tynemouth and the bloody metro’s off, today, from Tynemouth to SJP.
Assume it’ working the posh way round, through Jesmond?
Will have a longer walk to Tynemouth station, but cannot hack the buses.

Pure speculation but maybe Colbacks wages double when he reaches 114 matches. It would explain his ‘compulsive better’ reaction to being knocked back.

Only 3 games left till Woy’s sacked, baring a late equaliser.
