DeAndre Yedlin, Chancel Mbemba And Christian Atsu All Start Against Stoke City

Rafa Benitez has just announced his team for the tough game against Stoke City at St. James’ Park this afternoon.

Newcastle will be trying to win their third game in a row in the Premier League after successive wins against West Ham and Swansea.

Rafa has replaced both full-backs with DeAndre Yedlin making his first appearance of the season in place of Javier Manquillo and Chancel Mbemba is restored at left-back after he missed last week’s 1-0 win at Swansea.

Manquillo drops to the bench but no place for Jesus Gamez who played left back last Sunday.

Here’s the side as published on the Newcastle United Twitter account.

Mark Hughes – Stoke City manager

Freddie Woodman remains the backup goalkeeper with Karl Darlow now fit so is Freddie now the number two goalkeeper at Newcastle?

More than three in five fans think we can win this game.

All Tough games. Will be tight
Would have had Gayle and shelvey in team for Perez and Hayden but back four is solid. Come on boys

Jesus back to his behind the scenes role it seems, whatever that is. Good that we now know he can be relied upon to come in and do a solid job though.

Speedsters in Yedlin and Atsu back in. Our quickest two players by some margin.

    Hurry up kick-off!

I would take Jese playing over Crouch and Berahino all day. I know Berahino is out of form, but he likes playing against us, same as Crouch. Jese is more reputation than anything else imo.

    Zouma/Martins-Indi/Wimmer back 3 for them.

Danger of Joselu been crowded out, on the plus side they’ve never played together and 2 are on loan – antithesis of our well drilled unit, committed and familiar to each other.

Ugh, Crouch on the bench, that twat is always a threat due to his freakish height – age isn’t as much of a factor for him. Scored within minutes of coming on last time they were here, if I recall correctly.

Have they got diouf rwb? Defensively that could and should be exploited.

On Colback, he’s on too much money for his position in the squad. Seems like it was him who put a spanner in the works with various moves in the summer. My guess is that pissed off Rafa, desperate to get things moving in the transfer window; and maybe the thinking being, he won’t ever want to leave if given a place in the squad and a chance to prove himself/wait for a first team opportunity. This way maybe he’ll take the next offer he’s given. I don’t hate Jack, think he’s a solid, if limited player. But for the sake of an improved team, I want to see him sold. If he was a true Newcastle supporter he would have left for the sake of the team.
    ?

Lindisfarne made a good point earlier, which I hadn’t considered; that it could be an improved contract issue.

    Ronaldo

I was trying to work that out. Unless they’ve changed their system for today with Pieters at an orthodox LB and one of the usual CBs at RB, I’m not sure.

To think 2 years ago at this stage in the season we were still lining up with Anita/Colback in CM, Colo at CB, Cisse up front.

If nothing else we don’t get overpowered – and it used to be with ease – through the spine this time around.

Yeah I think he may have played there before for them this season but I’m unsure. If he is, him and shaqiri on their right is heavily attack minded.

Perez is due a performance, I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to town on Stoke today. Ayoze does seem to be playing slightly further forward recently, so he will get chances.

no i didn’t see your apology the other day, but that’s fine, if you want to pick me up on anything, make it football related, things like my point of view.

i find it very strange why anyone ever picks on silly things like spelling, to me it means the persons comment is so strong that you/they have to deflect, which i’m sure is not always the case.
