Spanish U21 International Mikel Merino was easily our best player in the 1-0 defeat against Brighton yesterday at the Amex Stadium.
Just like our last two games were very close this game was just as close, and it was really anybody’s game.
Rafa is right to say there’s nothing between a lot of team in the Premier League and the small things really matter during a game and practicing them in training.
We went to sleep for a corner early in the second half and that ultimately cost us the game.
We didn’t win yesterday, but we hope the manager’s management excellence will allow us to win most of the games against the bottom 14 teams in the league.
If we can do that we could finish as high as 7th in the league table and that would be a good foundation to build on for next season.
Mikel Merino – Newcastle’s young star
Mikel Merino is a big favorite of ours, and he is our Man of the Match with 62% of the vote.
And the mature youngster is fast becoming a superstar at Newcastle for one so young.
And after the game yesterday he made an excellent comment on nufcTV:
“Not everything is bad when you lose and not everything is good when you win.”
For some of us when we lose it’s a complete and utter disaster, and when we win, it’s just fabulous.
Rob Elliot made some crucial saves for us yesterday and is second in the voting with 13%, and he’s been in good form for us this season.
It will be interesting to see if Rafa still wants a new goalkeeper brought in next summer if Rob keeps up this form throughout the season.
