Newcastle will hopefully want to add to their squad in January, wherever we are in the Premier League table by then.
Rafa will want to improve the side in every transfer window, which is one reason he was so annoyed with owner Mike Ashley last January when not a single penny was spent on new players.
Our former Chief Scout Graham Carr has now left the club, and Rafa is in full control of which players come in and which players move out.
But the problem is still owner Mike Ashley and the fact he doesn’t like to spend money – even when it’s Newcastle’s money.
We reported yesterday that Newcastle have watched Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Valon Berisha during the Austrian club’s Europa League 1-1 draw with Vitoria de Guimaraes last month.
Garry Rodrigues – 26-year-old 21 times capped Cape Verde player
And late in the summer Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues was also a target of ours, but we failed to get him to the club.
And the reports in Turkey were that Rafa offered £6M for the 26-year-old winger – a £3M profit for Galatasaray in 6 months.
But the Turkish club didn’t accept Newcastle’s offer.
And there are reports now by Turkish Football that Newcastle will go in again this January for the Cape Verde left winger with an improved offer to try to persuade the Turkish giants to sell.
Hopefully, we are already working on potential deals for January so we can get the offers in early in the transfer window.
If we can get say three good players signed in January that would be very good and help us to finish further up the Premier league table come May.
