Good Time To Recall This Player To Starting 11 Against Liverpool

Newcastle were not at their best at Brighton last Sunday, and with so many players fighting for a start, we think Rafa will make some changes for the game on Sunday at home to Liverpool.

The defense fell asleep for the Brighton goal so we have a feeling Rafa could recall Florian Lejeune at center-back and move Ciaran Clark to left back.

We should point out that physioroom.com has Florian as a slight doubt because of that ankle injury of his.

Jonjo Shelvey looked good when he came on in the second half, and we had lacked creativity, and it could be that Jonjo gets a start against Liverpool.

He could partner Mikel Merino in central midfield, and the Spanish U21 International is becoming a significant player for the club.

But one way to play Hayden, Shelvey, and Merino together on the same side, is to have Jonjo play in the number 10 position in place of Perez, so we have a strong spine to the team.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – could start tomorrow

We have Atsu retaining his position, but he has been a little disappointing, and the Ghanaian gets hustled off the ball far too easily.

That’s maybe why we need another winger brought in during the January transfer window.

And up front, we will play Mitrovic who is now available, but we have a feeling Rafa may keep Joselu on the side.

So this is a possible team for Sunday:

Elliot
Yedlin Lascelles (c) Lejeune Clark
Hayden Merino
Ritchie Shelvey Atsu
Mitrovic

That’s our best team for Sunday – what’s yours?

I am sure Colback got the winner in Pardews last game against Everton when we won 3-2 and the equaliser under Rafa at Liverpool in the 2-2 draw at Anfield the year we got relegated.

I think Lejeune will be on the bench tbh. Hayden could do with a rest in this one. It might be fun to see Joselu and mitrovic bash their defenders about. They haven’t got the stoic resilience they are known for .

Whatever people think of Jack Colback as a player, he came to us on a free transfer and did the job asked of him most of the time.

He is not a flair player but a workhorse and whilst the bookings and dodgy free kicks conceded may attract the attention of so called supporters, the treatment neted out to him is undeserved and unfair because the lad NEVER gave less than 100% for the shirt, whether good enough or not.

A d for those pricks who continually castigate Colback Dummett Perez Diame etc, remember wone thing

THEY DONT SELECT THEMSELVES FOR TBE TEAM

expat…I’ve been comparing him to Messi this whole time 🙂

Whilst there have been some comments that are OTT, in the most part, he just isn’t rated that highly. That’s not attacking the lad, its part and parcel of professional sport. I think most recognise that he’s a hard worker, along with some of the others you mention, but for them, they prioritise other attributes. Not sure that makes them pr*cks, at the same time, I’m not saying some are not either.

Rumours in the Journal this morning that SKY are looking into scheduling a game for Christmas Eve for the first time in 22 years.

Guess what it will be the TOON who are away at West Ham on the 23rd

Love screwing the away fans up – our first four away games – on a Sunday tea time plus Sunday’s game at 4-30 pm to accomodate the Master’s Golf and now talk of us playing away on Christmas eve.

No thought for the fans just viewing figures and MONEY – pity the Premier League relies on the money

Its one of those blog myths where players are thought to be singled out for hatred when in fact I haven’t seen any real insults for the likes of some of our less glamorous players, merely a desire to see tangible and worthwhile upgrades – it is competition after all and they are professionals so they realise the hard reality of where their talents are limited.

Paul Dummett, Jack Colback, Mitrovic, Perez have all had their hood days in black and white. But if this team aspires to anything better than swirling around the leagues plughole every season, we need to improve. They have served us admirably, been paid wonderful money for doing something most of us pay for the privilege of participating in, so they should not feel aggrieved when we want to move them along. Thanks.

I would be surprised to see Mbemba lose his place to Clark bearing in mind that so far this season Salah has been a one trick pony, pace seems to be all that he has and I’m pretty sure that Mbemba would have him in his pocket, I would feel uneasy if it was Clark up against Salah.

Perez and Joselu haven’t done much, mind having said that the service hasn’t been great, against Brighton Atsu, Merino and Ritchie all disappointed me as they did very little, but I imagine all 3 will keep their place, Arrons for Atsu all day for me but I can’t see Rafa doing that, but the pressure on Perez and Joselu is rising and it could be time for a shake up, I do expect Mitro to get the nod over Joselu, Shelvey may get the nod over Perez as well but I think Perez will keep his place.

Hayden will start as Rafa will want to keep it as tight as he can with the talent they have in midfield, we have to stop them first so Hayden will keep his place, due to Liverpool having such a busy schedule I expect Rafa to try to hold them back then try to win it in the last half hour as they tire a little, this is where Shelvey and Arrons could be utilised.

I am guilty as charged, when it comes to castigating Diame. You could hardly accuse Diame of being a hard-worker though. Diame did have a little spell of form, just before the ACON, and has not been the same since. I suppose Diame deserves some credit for retiring from international football, but I am unsure if it has anything to do with his commitment to everything black & white.

I had read somewhere that it’s the Arsenal v Liverpool game that is scheduled for Christmas Eve at about 4pm I think.
The Scousers are furious about not being back home in time to start their christmas shopping.
That’s before the trains stop running.
Maybe Sky should pay for Santa special trains to run for supporters as they’ve the money to do that.

With all due respect we don’t know what has happened behind the scenes so how can we say his treatment is unfair or otherwise, would Rafa treat as he is treating him without a valid reason, I doubt he would.

It appears to me as if Colback is getting treat the way he is not for footballing reasons but for other reasons, so who are we to judge.

I have never viewed Rolando Aarons the same again; every since his game up against Aaron Lennon. There was a shocking disparity between the two players when playing against one another on the same flank. With Aarons and Lennon, players that are quite similar in style, the intensity and determination between the two was glaring.

Aarons looks great when he gets some space to operate in, but put a fully committed player against him, and he looks to struggle. To be fair, Aarons has been injured and not had a long duration to push himself past his earlier exploits, so hopefully there is more to come. I wouldn’t want to be Aarons’ shoes with Atsu and Murphy ahead of me.

I’m of the opinion that Shelvey will definitely play in Sunday’s game. We will play it tight and sit back to negate Liverpool’s high pressing game and Shelvey will be the link between the transition of defence and attack with quick long balls onto a pacy attack. I don’t think Mitro will get a start as getting caught on the break at pace is a shortcoming of Liverpool this season and Shelvey has the best delivery for the quick transition, I really don’t think we be popping it about this weekend like recent weeks.

I’d like to see either Aarons or Murphy getting a run out in place of Atsu v LIverpool.
My team would be : Elliot
    Yeldlin Lascelles Clark, Mbemba
    Merino Hayden
    Ritchie Perez Murphy
    Mitro.

When I watched the Leicester and Liverpool game at the weekend Vardy kept moving over to the left channel for long balls over the top and caused there backline all sorts of problems as they couldn’t keep their shape. We need to do this if we show ambition to attack and Joselu as the more rounded and adaptable striker will start with Gayle maybe getting the last 15 against tired legs.

I see Pochettino has came out and confirmed that Sissoko wanted to leave in the summer. So what was stopping the move then I wonder? Perhaps the rumour that Tottenham would have to pay up Sissoko’s remaining fee–if sold–was true. What a shame. I am sure Benitez could have done minor miracles with an extra £24 million during the summer.

Update on SDJ in the Mag:

“Siem de Jong hasn’t managed a single minute on the pitch in league matches, left on the bench so far.

“His only involvement has been a single game against fourth tier side Scheveningen, Ajax winning 5-1 and de Jong scoring, at a stadium that holds only three thousand fans.”

I just read the Hemed statement about his stamp on Yedlin. Clearly quite a slippery customer going by the wording in his statement.

““I would never go out to injure a fellow professional on purpose.”

Nobody accused Hemed of having an agenda of wanting to injure Yedlin prior to the game. It was a heat of the moment stamp which he is accused of, and that is the incident he should have addressed in his statement.

Can you imagine somebody handling the ball on the line, and thereby stopping the ball going into the net. Said player then proposes that he would never go out to handle the ball on the purpose. And yet it still happened.

The outrage from Brighton supporters (as can be read on The Mag) is embarrassing to read.

Ancient…Don’t suppose you have link to said Mag article?

For Hemed, I think it’s damage limitation and reputation protection. Just look at Mitro and Shelvey to see what happens when you get the reputation for trouble (not that it isn’t deserved a fair amount of the time).
