Javier Manquillo And Jonjo Shelvey Start Against Liverpool – Joselu Leads The Line

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has just named his side to face his former club Liverpool at St. James’ Park this afternoon.

Here is the team that has just been put out on the Newcastle United Twitter Account.

So Manquillo gets a surprise recall to the side at left-back in place of Chancel Mbemba who is not on the bench and could be injured.

And Jonjo comes into the starting lineup in place of Isaac Hayden who is on the bench, so it’s the first time we have seen Shelvey and Merino start a game in central midfield.

And Joselu continues to start the game up front with Dwight Gayle on the bench; Aleksandar Mitrovic didn’t make it on the bench for today’s game.

About a third of the Newcastle fans think we can win this tough game this afternoon.

Newcastle United: Rob Elliot, DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo, Mikel Merino, Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie, Christian Atsu, Ayoze Pérez, Joselu.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Jesús Gámez, Florian Lejeune, Isaac Hayden, Mohamed Diamé, Jacob Murphy, Dwight Gayle.

9/11 for me, no surprise with Shelvey, I’d have thought LeJuene coming back and Clark at LB would have been a better choice but I aint Rafa.

Our most attacking side this season against a team with 10x better attacking players than us is Rafa handing them the win??? Huddersfield and Brighton would have been the teams to play this 11.

more worried about shelvey starting in midfield than manquillo at left back
I hope we dont get overrun
Also still not sold on shelvey’s creative abilities at this level

Chron is running a story about some lass at the match (Amanda Staveley)- who helped broker the Man City deal and a failed Liverpool investment from Dubai. Interesting, I hope.

Ive watched quite a bit of Liverpool recently. They place like Barcelona for the first 30 minutes and Crystal Palace for the last 30. If Newcastle can withstand the opening pressure, they have a chance.

I think Manquillo has been okay actually. Dummett is missed in games like this in which you want a defender of real quality.

Shelvey in place of Hayden is a slight gamble, shelvey’s obviously better on the ball. He cant defend though

I think we might just need a miracle from Jesus!

    And (from earlier threads)

If it’s true that Amanda Staveley’s up for the match, she’s been out with a hen-party last night, ended up locked in in the Trent or somewhere with Charnley, got chucked out of her hotel for trashing her room.

But never fear, Charnley wouldn’t dump the lass and with time to kill he’ll be looking after her ’til it’s time for her train. Let’s hope he offers her more than lukewarm tea and a Greggs seconds pasty and the fans and the lads give her the experience of a lifetime!

If Sturridge is like an extra defender for the Toon then Perez and Joselu are like two extra defenders for them. They are really …. poor. Is there a weaker front two in the league. Men against boys. Defence v attack.

Thats because Atsu cannot defend. Not much cop in attack either. God do we need some quality up front.

What a goal by Coutinho. Nothig you can do about that.

We can’t get out of out own half. We need to be a bit more patient when in possesion. We’re trying to be too direct and keep losing the ball.

Oh my Joselu has just scored!! Hahahahaha yess
