Alan Shearer Praises A Resolute Newcastle Display – Not So Gracious To Liverpool

Alan Shearer was happy with the solid performance of Newcastle at home to Liverpool this afternoon.

And while the Reds had plenty of the ball with 68% of the possession they had only two shots on target whereas Newcastle had five shots on target.

Goals win games and not the time you have the ball, and it’s not the first time we have seen Newcastle let a team have possession.

But the opposition very rarely can take advantage of it, and in 7 games we have conceded only 6 goals.

That’s the good news – the bad news is that we have only scored 7 goals with striker Joselu having scored two.

Alan Shearer praises Newcastle’s solid performance

Captain Jamaal Lascelles who was impressive again this afternoon also has scored two goals for us this season.

No Manxpie he just doesn’t rate Mitrovic.

He was only contemplating selling Gayle in the last days of the window because he couldn’t get rid of Mitrovic. He’s never ever rated Mitrovic. I told you this when he kept playing Tsunki’s favourite player Cisse, despite him being absolutely shite and not able to trap a bag of cement at the time.

He did finally give him a chance when relegation was confirmed and he made that really good tackle on Kyle Walker. He’s been trying to flog him from that day onwards.

    manxpie,
Not a strange comment at all on Mitro, he has to learn he just can’t act like a lunatic and then get straight back in the side, he’d have started today had McLaren or Pardew been in charge but Rafa is showing him he doesn’t trust him and rightly so.

    Jazzy,
When we thought Gayle was coming on we were hoping that it was Perez coming off and Gayle and Joselu getting paired, it’s not happening with Rafa so we should get used to it.

I would like to note that Elliot’s distribution is poor – almost nothing sticks and we concede possession – I think this is why Rafa was looking for a new Goalie

Gayle still managed to do more work than Perez. He’s was screaming at Perez to close down and not let them play it out from the back. He just run round like a fcuking Turkey.

Have to say the Referee was absolutely fcuking shite. What is it with Refs and pundits. Just don’t want to give us anything.

Nice to see and hear the chants to Graeme Sour mess after the game hahaha fcuking ballbag!!!

I’m not a Perez hater and won’t jump on the bandwagon either, but when he sent that cross/shot/try in to the Gallowgate then start hopping like he’d hurt himself I lost patience with him.

Rafa is probably shrewd enough to know that Mitro has I think International matches to play so that’s an opportunity for the player to continue to improve his fitness and game sharpness. I think we’ll see Mitro at least on the bench after the break. Gayle looks like he’s still not quite in the zone yet and we don’t know why so that’s a conundrum. Let’s hope that Ritchie pulling out of the Scotland squad is precautionary otherwise we are definitely lightweight up front.

Clark completely missing that clearance that was lucky not to lead to a goal was very poor.

Elliot was as reliable as ever. with the goal he actually dived as good as possible.

This Amanda staveley story has got me a lump in my pants, how good would it be to wake up and find out there has been a bid put in.

She was spotted going down the tunnel how crap would it be if she s bidding on buying out Liverpool and asking Rafa to go and manage them under the new owners.

Hopefully it’s to buy NUFC we are due some fortunate events.

From NUFC.com on the big flag
“Nostros te seguimos a todas partes, siempre te respaldaremos, por todas las mentiras que nos digan, jamas te dudaremos. Estamos contigo.”

That translates as: “We will follow you everywhere, we’ll always have your back. In spite of the lies they tell us, we’ll never doubt you. We are with you.”

It refers back to his days at Valencia where the phrase was coined.

    Big question’s here

Does rafa rate mbenba and mitro at all?
I reckon he’ll at least cash in on one of their transfer fees for January

Do we need a better st and no.10?.
I think yes and is a jan priority. Perez too lightweight and wasteful and Joselu seems to lack the finishing.

Is legunje getting back in as cb?
If he is..it’ll be for Clark I reckon.

    Can merino and shelvey work?
I haven’t been excited about a cm partnership for toon in a long time.

What’s the story with Murphy & rolando?
Astu been quiet the last 2 games. ..why aren’t these 2 lads putting their hands up.

    Gayle?
Looks out of his depth a Pl level. Not suited to our styLe of play. I think we need a new no.9…Danny ings anybody?

    New owner?
Closest we’ve been to one in the last few years I’d imagine. There’s money in football.

You might have spoilt the day for a lot of folk if Amanda did a deal for Liverpool and they kidnapped Rafa back. That would leave us with Kilppity Klopp and Ashley.
No – ain’t going to happen. So you’re forgiven for your moment of weakness.
Amanda’s a cool and very shrewd operator and her investors will be looking for a Unique proposition – an exclusive and that’s exactly what NUFC is . A one club city with enormous potential with the new Science park and so much more to develop and promote. Liverpool is a two club city and no one can understand what they say so that’s the end of it.
    Ashley sells.
    Rafa stays.
Amanda Stavely gets the Freedom of the City.
    60,000 capacity at SJP
    European football
    MOTD implodes.

You look at that atmosphere and that stadium and that support and that manager and you realise that you have everything you need if you want to buy a football club with the intention of challenging the elite sides in not just England but Europe. It’s on, it always has been, it’s just that Ashley hasn’t had the stomach for it.

Tough to be secretive. She perhaps feels she needs to have been there on match day to most effectively broker the deal, which will of course be a substantial. A deal may have already been agreed in principle. It does certainly feel as though something is imminent.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. Yesterday’s match was a demonstration of the potential of investing in Newcastle United. Bishop’s got to be congratulated for it and it’s stage management.

You’ve thought it through and Bishop’s used this match as one to place NUFC on the same platform as Liverpool. He’s exploited the similarities between us and Liverpool – managers and players the clubs’ve shared, the passion of the fans. Rafa’s special guest was the lady who’s spearheaded the Hillsborough campaign, a cause he’s given great support to.

So? Liverpool FC is a worldwide brand – Newcastle United could be – with the right investment.

Oh, that Amanda Staveley was at the match to witness it all. Who was the gorilla that was wearing the cap she was with? C’mon, own up….

Agree Catchy, worked for me too. Both had good game in my eyes.Don’t get how some said Merino had poor game.He was intercepting a lot of balls and cut short their forward balls. Not the prettiest game but the players did what they have been told and dug to get the that result which isn’t bad at all.

That duo didn’t work for me.

We were overrun in MF and someone has to take the blame. For me, Shelvey. He’s very slow and can’t challenge without fouling. So, to stay out of trouble, he holds back giving acres of space. He’s a luxury a better team maybe could afford, given his Hollywood passes. We can’t.

Merino wins the ball very often, also is very good going forward and can hold the ball better. Even Hayden, who’s been playing under par. closed them down much more when he came on.

Conclusion: to go to the next level (Liverpool et al are obviously streets ahead) we need more. One vg MF, one CF for starters.

Rafa, what’s your problem with Mitro?

Congratulations to the whole team for a hard fought draw against superior opposition.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, I would say it is the other way around, Shelvey is the luxury we can afford. ‘Better’ clubs being able to pay higher for a more rounded player, whereas we have to utilise the lesser midfielder who has a good pass but a little slow in the tackle.
