Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player Against Liverpool?

Newcastle got a very good point against a top-six side today and after a rough first half we were more in the game in the second half and at the end could even have nicked the win.

It was a world-class strike from Coutinho that put Liverpool ahead after 29 minutes but then on 36 minutes it was Spanish striker Joselu who was put through with a stunning pass from Shelvey and scored to make it 1-1.

Rafa looked happy enough at the end of the game as he was on the pitch congratulating his players and waving at the Newcastle fans – who seemed happy enough with a good point this afternoon before the long and boring two-week International break.

Let us know who you think Newcastle’s best player was this afternoon.

We’re remaining in the game in every single fixture, which is definitely a good sign. I can’t see us getting any of our usual hammerings this season.

    Yedlin mom for me.

Well hopefully that goal gives him a bit of confidence. It was a fluke like.

We should have had a free kick for that pull back. Fair enough to see if Atsu can create anything, but then give the free kick if not. The tug obviosly stopped him getting to the ball earlier. Should have brought it back for the free kick and given a yellow. Didn’t think the ref had a good game. And if Perez is gonna get booked every time he kicks the ball away, he’s not gonna spend much time on the pitch.

not great for joselu really missed quite a few chances and both his goals have been lucky but he has been getting in good positions
mitro would get a load of abuse for the same tho
so do people think we are in line for a saudi rich takeover then?

wat gets me chancel is that yellow card was for kicking the ball away straight after the whistle which is for wasting time yet the ref stopped at least 2 of our quick free kicks which weren’t even that quick and pulled them back!
    thats bloody time wasting!

I reckon Perez had a decent game, again. Shame his effort to catch the GK off the line went so astray, he’d have been a hero instead of getting all of the opprobrium from some bloggers.

Thought Elliot had a good game as well, might not get many votes for MOM but should figure in the top three.

I’d have voted for Shelvey on his 1st half performance but he struggled in the 2nd. Don’t know if he’d ran himself out or LPool did a job on him but he never seemed to have any time to be more creative.

At least we don’t have to sit and brood too much during the international break. 🙂

Agree that refs are the biggest time wasters on the pitch. My Perez comment was more a joke about him kicking the ball away on our attacks.

Merino has a poor game by his standards today some decent tackles but passing was off and lost the ball in dangerous positions a good few times.

Great team effort, where Matt Ritchie gets his energy from I don,t know. You know we are not too far from a really good side. Great to hear St James at her loud and beautiful best, thanks to you all. All hail Rafa

Time to give chance for new line up. JOSELU (Mitro IN) – 6 games already in Joselu’s pocket. He was aweful. Which PL team has worse striker (main) than him? He never live up to his potential. Wait, he never was. That’s own goal ffs. He’s lucky the defender helping him how to score a goal in front of the goal post when it was him against the goalie. Was like that before, always, and become his chronic disease. PEREZ (GAYLE IN) – was my favourite player but no more. Was dazzling and making good runs in the box, yet heavy feet. Nothing much he can do to help the final 3rd. Change formation to 4-4-2 with Merino + Shelvey as CM. CLARK (Leujune IN) last night just a marking point for Leujune to replace him. Weakest link in the defensive area. We were just lucky to earn a point.

Shelvey MOM for me. He can provide something totally different. Also good to hear positive Sky comments on him for once. I cant help but think what would have been if Merino had played like he has for the past few games, he was a bit off today.
Same as Clark, usually solid but had a slightly off day.
Ritchie was top class as always, Yedlin had a good game, and Rob Elliott.
I hate to slag him, but Perez needs dropped for a game or two. He just cant make the ball stick and doesn’t do enough in possession.
Plenty to think of for the next game though, and I still think a fit Lejuene and Mitro will add more than we have at the minute

Lascelles was immense yesterday! I was watching on NBC and even Lee Dixon was wetting himself over the lad’s positional and leadership skills. The amount of times he got himself in the right place to cut out a pass or get a foot in was incredible.

I had a bit of banter on here early season about how I did not think Lascelles was up to much, based on his skills with ball at feet. On seeing his recent performances, I must eat some humble pie. The lad has been incredible for us. I reckon next step will be a call-up for him!
