Key Question Answered About Amanda Staveley’s Interest In Buying Newcastle

We looked up some information about Amanda Staveley this morning, and she is listed as worth around £110M, which is not the very rich person or consortium that Mike Ashley has talked about buying.

We, therefore, thought she would probably be working on behalf of some consortium from the Middle-East and advising them during any potential sale of Newcastle United.

But the Mail are reporting today that would not be the case and that in this case she would be the lead buyer and would, therefore, be the official owner of Newcastle United f the deal was completed.

Here’s a quote from the article by Ian Ladyman:

“She would be the lead buyer, with backing. Previously she has been a broker. Not this time.”

And that is also consistent with the news from the Chronicle that a group of Newcastle fans have been working for a while to try to get Amanda interested in buying Newcastle United from current owner Mike Ashley.

As we all know Mike Ashley is not exactly trusted by the Newcastle fans.

Amanda Staveley – potential new Newcastle owner – she looks better than Mike

Her PCP Capital Partners fund has £28B under management, and she has been enormously successful as a financial adviser in her stellar career.

Presumably, Amanda would look for other investors to put the money together if she does lodge a bid for Newcastle United but she would be the principal owner.

Staveley was instrumental in assisting Thaksin Shinawatra to sell Manchester City to Abu Dhabi’s Sheik Mansour back in 2008, and she would likely be a popular owner at Newcastle.

If she does happen to buy Newcastle then the Gallowgate Flags group would need to get busy putting some flags together – maybe like this one from @joe1989nufc?

Comments welcome.

Ed – check out the flag that first appeared outside The Percy on Sep 16th. That’s a full two weeks before the media got a sniff of this story.
True Faith and Twitter has it – her face on a ‘club for sale – owner needed’ type flag. Someone knows far more than is being let on.

Not long now…the pieces are all coming together. New investment just in time for the January window guaranteeing our safety and setting the foundations for a stellar year next year.

This is gonna be like the Keegan years…we might not win owt but it’ll be one hell of a ride 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Happy days

Hmmm..then she would be the main owner, very interesting. She does look better than Ashley alright! And woman are more emotional than men and she could easier understand our heartache and distrust of Ashley and be willing to supply us with proper funds to get this club consistently in the tip 10 at least. All she needs is for a very wealthy friend of hera like a Sheik joins her in this venture and our future will be very rosey indeed.

I don’t believe she wants us or is looking at us for anyone else.

If anything I reckon Bishop got her to the match to force the hands of real investors or to imply Nufc had other interested parties to raise the price.

Hope I’m wrong but it’s just more smoke and mirrors whilst fatty sucks the life out the club.

This does not make any sense.
Amanda Wakeleys track record is a broker, an M&A advisor. She does not buy companies her self. She puts buyers (Middle Eastern wealthy individuals or sovereign wealth funds) together with sellers and helps smooth negotiations.
It would be a concern if she bought NUFC herself. She may not even be a fit and proper person as she has no experience of owning, providing leadership for or managing a significant people sports business like NUFC. She would spell trouble and we have had enough of that with Ashley.
She is good news though. She is the real deal in broking the sale of Manchester City/trophy assets to the middle eastern funds/individuals she knows.
Stand by for a roller coaster ride though! These investors are no pussy cats. They will have ambition and strategies to create wealth. Be prepared for St James Park to be completely modernised/rebuilt, the staff to be near completely changed, training ground transformed, playing squad radicalised! Some will not like that, including the local council!

Jesus lads how about some positivity.

Who cares if she’s just a broker, or going to be a part owner or full owner…the truth of the matter is it’ll be a change for the better and we’ll be well funded and in a much better place than where we are now.

The cancer is being removed…surely that’s a good thing??????

You would have to think there would be an opportunity to turn Newcastle into a top 4 club, should investors be interested in buying the club and achieving that aim.

Tottenham will lose Kane, and with Levy at the helm, the balance sheet always come first. Pochettino will not hang around for long once more of the best players are sold. Wenger isn’t going to be at Arsenal much longer, and their situation with contract rebels is getting worse. Liverpool blow hot & cold. The two Manchester clubs and Chelsea look solid, but there could be an opening for a new side to take one of the other top 4 spots. Here is hoping there is something to these stories…

Only way I could see Ashley selling currently is if SD retaining the rights to all their advertising for a long period was somehow tied up into the deal.

At the risk of getting some ire from many bloggers, I want to remind everyone of the excitement there was when Ashley bought the club and many of us were spending his money on top players! Did that happen?

I think perhaps a few cold showers until something concrete actually happens.

She met rafa after the Liverpool match to discuss funds required for him in January. I expect the deal to be completed before year end. Rafa knew Ashley will be selling which is why he stayed at the club.

I foresee us spending northwards of 80million in January.

I’ve always thought that NUFC and the Falcons should get their heads together to form a State of the art Training Ground at Bullocksteads allowing a swap of some pitches there with Benton which would be a better central location for students with local transport links.
The Falcons have just announced plans for a new Stand and investing in some other facilities so surely a new Sports Fitness/Medical and Training facility out there makes sense. At least this would bring to fruition a Sporting Club of Newcastle first mooted by Sir John Hall. If Barcelona end up in the Premier League we need to show them the standard expected!

This is all working at Ashleys behest…he gave us all due notice at the beginning of the season when he came on tele and said he wasn’t rich enough playing the poor little street urchin who simply can’t keep up with the big boys.

The truth is he is rich enough but has his eye on other more profitable things as he knows the value of the club will not get any higher than it is now. He’s buying up city centre land all over the UK like it’s going out of fashion…all part of his bigger plan and he’s now ready to sell a significant stake without losing his advertising rights for SD.

Ashley has chosen the timing, Ashley is in complete control and Ashley will get what he wants and the timing is such it’ll be done well before xmas.

Barnes was brought in to find a buyer. Ashley did not release cash because he wants to sell. Rafa stayed because he knew what was going on which is why he didn’t bash Ashley for his lack of investments.

Expect the sale to be completed before January.

Fit and proper person is a term generally used in the context of a person’s background and in particular criminal or other malpractice involving finances.

I’m sure we’d all like to think that someone like Ms Stavely would recognise her own limitations in terms of running a business such as a major football club and employ people who new the business to run it as it should be.

Barnes was brought in to find a buyer.

Why when buyers don’t live in Newcastle ?

Ashley did not release cash because he wants to sell.

Why does buying players affect a sale ?

Rafa didn’t bash Ashley for his lack of investments.

Yes he did – he wasn’t happy

Expect the sale to be completed before January.

Is that like – expect us to be thrashed 5- 0 by Liverpool on Sunday

People are getting way ahead of themselves here, I won’t believe anything until its signed and sealed.
If and it’s a huge IF I’m not sure it would be worth spending huge bucks in Jan when we’ll likely have no chance of reaching champions league by then so better to plan for early summer spree so we have players in for full pre-season and go from there…. I’m getting carried away myself now 🙂

Possibly this article in the BBC has something to do with Ashley’s desire to sell up?
“It reveals Operation Loom is looking into whether the club knew payments to agents were being “secretly” funnelled to other unlicensed agents and players themselves in a bid to circumvent income tax and National Insurance.
Regarding Demba Ba’s transfer to Newcastle from West Ham, HMRC said: “It appears NUFC paid agent’s fees for services of £1.9m in full knowledge that the majority would be passed on to other agents… and to a company associated with the player”.
There were “further suspicions” arising out of his transfer to Chelsea in January 2013.
HMRC said it believed: “NUFC systematically abused the tax system… and all payments to agents made were potentially the subject of criminal proceedings”.

He’s investing in massive property deals. Just watch for the announcement as soon as he’s sold a stake.

Mineshaft…We’ll be buying players in January to ensure premiership safety…not to make a run at a Champions league slot…that’s way out of our reach with our squad even if we bought 5 big name players in january…and we all know that simply won’t happy.

Yeah I know we would all be happy to see the end of our present dear owner, but it just ain’t happening, he wants too much money, plus he sees an opportunity to hopefully take on a junior partner, (to pay for much needed buys during this approaching window) being he is presently engaged in the expansion of his real business both in the UK and US, which has resulted in no money for Rafa.
