Newcastle were very interested in signing 23-year-old Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet in late August after the former Anderlecht playmaker had a good first season playing in Italy.
Newcastle are not the only club interested in signing the Belgian International and during August Everton were supposed to also be interested in signing the playmaker.
But at the end of the day, Dennis decided to stay put at Sampdoria – a club he says he likes playing for.
Rafa rates the 23-year-old, and he could provide some much-needed creativity in the Newcastle side, and Rafa could go back in for the player in the January transfer window.
SportMediaset are reporting Newcastle are the leading Premier League club after the Belgian International.
Newcastle have prioritized signing a left back, striker and a number 10 in the January window and it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if we go after Praet at that time.
If not then Newcastle could set it up so we can potentially sign him this summer early in the transfer window.
That’s what Rafa tried to do last summer, but he was met with Newcastle (make that Mike Ashley) balking at some of the transfer prices and loan prices being asked for the manager’s top choices.
The result is we missed out on a lot of our top choices very early in the summer.
That may all change if we ever get a consortium coming in to buy Newcastle United – maybe even before the end of this year.
That would be great.
