Newcastle made a last day attempt to sign Galatasary’s Dutch-born winger Garry Rodrigues in the summer transfer window, and we offered £6M for the 26-year-old.
That offer was turned down by his Turkish club even though that would have meant a £3M profit for Galatasaray in just 6 months since they signed him from PAOK in January for just£3M.
And there’s news today that Newcastle want to sign the winger in January and have been in regular communication about the winger with Galatasaray since September.
Turkish Football are today reporting something they also published towards the end of last month – that Newcastle are keen to sign the winger and are willing to pay more than the initial £6M bid for him.
Garry Rodrigues – Galatasary winger for less than a year
Rodrigues has 3 assists in 9 total games for the club this season, and since he signed in January, he has played 27 times for the Turkish giants with 2 goals and 6 assists.
His form this season has been good, and it looks like he’s one that Rafa would like to sign early in the January transfer window.
We hope Lee Charnley and his team are working on some potential deals for January so we can get the offers so we can get the player in early in the transfer window.
But as we mentioned this morning, which players we go after early in the new year will depend on whether we have new owners or that Mike Ashley is still in charge of the club.
We are hoping we have new owners by then who can give Rafa a cash infusion in January so he can bring some good players into the club at that time.
