Merino – It’s Like A New Home For Me – I Am Happy To Be At Newcastle

It was excellent news that Mikel Merino singed permanently for us from Borussia Dortmund for a fee said to £6.5M plus the loan fee we paid – whatever that was.

The deal is for five years and keeps the talented 21-year-old with us until at least 2022, and Mikel seems delighted to have made the move permanent.

He looks like he is a top player in the making and certainly, he can become a star midfield player in England under the coaching of Rafa Benitez.

The 6ft 2ins tall Mikel has played 7 times for Newcastle and he’s represented the Spanish U21 side 10 times with 3 goals and he could become a top future International for Spain.

Mikel Merino – Newcastle Is Like A New Home For Me

After signing this morning this is what Mikel has said – as reported in the Chronicle:

“I feel really happy. It’s a good thing for me to be here for the next years.” “I feel the love of all my team-mates and the people who gave me this contract.”

“I am happy and want to focus on keeping going and training to improve.”

“When I signed here with the loan I was only thinking about helping the team and improving myself. “The other things, like extending the contract, were things that would come if I did good things.”

“I wasn’t worried about that, but the contract was extended and that was a good thing for me.”

“The way the team has been with me and the way the fans are with me – I like the people here in the city.”

“It is like a new home for me and I am happy to be here.”  “I can learn a lot from him and I am happy he is here with us.”

“I have a lot of things to improve and develop, and he is a good mentor to help me.” “I have learned a lot of things tactically already.”

“He is giving me a lot of advice and I am happy to learn from that.”

“I do not know too much about the history (of Newcastle) – I will have to study that.”  “But I know I am at a huge club and I am happy to be part of it.”

“Newcastle is a huge club in England.” “Not only because of the name, but everything else about the club too.”

“It is cooler than in Spain (really?), but for me it is a good place to live.”  “It is quiet and the people treat everyone with respect.”

“I am happy here, the weather is not the best for a Spanish guy, but I feel comfortable.”

“I am struggling with normal English – never mind Geordie. I have to study and learn and hopefully in a few more months I will know more.”

“I am really happy to have signed this extension.”

Very good words from Mikel there – he was obviously born to play for Newcastle United and for Rafa too.

Clears the way for another loan player if the budget does not allow purchases in January.

We have got to get a new owner now, if not Ash will sell Merino in the summer for a tidy little profit and expect the fans to celebrate an even better financial spreadsheet.

Just hope that there is a massive buy out fee in his contract, I also hope, if there is, it doesn’t get activated.

There was something prophetic in my posting cheese fest links after all, what with Mr Squeezy Cheesy himself gunning for us ha ha. 🙂

Reilly, I never doubted you for a second 😉

I’d trade the entire team to tie Rafa down with a new owner.

I looked up Reilly’s back posts
No point in re posting for blog harmony

At the time he also posted that his mate who
lives near the Benton training ground had seen
Ashley and Rafa having a natter beside MA’s chopper.

Neither Hibbit nor Ibiza were on his case
Just asked him for a link about an his claim
an investor was sniffing around SJP.

Kraft used to have a factory/warehouse on the Teams trading Estate, worked there once for a few weeks.

    Dunno if it’s still there.

He might be interested in Strawberry Place, could rename it Cheesy Place perhaps.

On Dummett and the craic about speedy players, wasn’t he supposed to be the fastest in the squad.

So will we have two of the fastest FBs in the league?

Essex, thanks for posting, mate. I’ve been watching on to see if Jail had the courage to attempt 13 consecutive posts on Fri 13th. Then after waiting 6 minutes I thought I’d better step in and save his eternal soul – but you saved me the bother…

In another way it’s a pity, as it could have been interesting (hence why I waited).

Re: Burnley match. As luck would have it I will be across the pond late this month. Would have loved to see a match at SJP, but will have to be satisfied with a trip to Burnley for the Oct 30th game!
