Since a year last summer when Ronald Koeman joined Everton as manager the Toffees have been big spenders in the transfer market.
Last season they finished in a very respectable 7th place on 61 points which was 15 points above Southampton, who were below them in 8th.
The Toffees spent big money last summer, but they have not made a good start to the season and are currently in 17th place in the table with just 7 points from 7 games.
In the early game today before Newcastle play at Southampton Everton are at Brighton & Hove Albion, and it’s possible they could get a good result at the Amex Stadium.
The Sun are reporting the Merseyside club are ready to fire Koeman and try to sign Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez.
Best of luck with that one.
Rafa Benitez – unlikely to want to move to Everton
If Rafa moved to Everton, it would put him back home where his wife and two daughters still live in the Wirral, but it’s doubtful he would want to sign for Everton after doing so well at Liverpool from 2004-2010.
But it does show that Rafa is starting to get the headlines again for the great job he has done at Newcastle when he even stayed with us after we were relegated in May last year.
Any manager who does that will think twice of leaving a club where we get over 52,000 fans at St. James’ Park in every league game.
Rafa is also loved by the fans – and that’s a big understatement.
So while it’s not too surprising that Rafa’s name has come up and been linked to the Everton job, there’s little chance he would be interested in the Toffees job.
That’s especially true when at least four investors are looking to invest in Newcastle United and maybe before Christmas too.
What do you think?
