Rafa Disappointed For Fans After 2-2 Draw At St. Mary’s

Rafa Benitez has admitted that he was a little bit unhappy that Newcastle couldn’t get all 3 points at St. Mary’s this afternoon after we have been 1-0 and 2-1 up.

But it was a very good performance from  Newcastle and Rafa will take a lot of positives from the performance, but also our defense has to be a lot tighter and keep their concentration.

It was a double from Manolo Gabbiadini that got the Saints a point.

Rafa obviously thought we could (should) have won this game, but it was also a good fighting performance from the side.

And it turned out to be an exciting game in the second half with both teams going all out for the win.

This is what Rafa had to say after the game:

“I have to be happy because we have drawn, at the same disappointed because we could have won,”

“We created chances to score goals, in the end I thought it was a good performance from the team.”

“My bigger disappointment was to see 3,500 on Sunday, playing away, not getting the three points.”

“Hopefully they can be happy with the point.”

“We were more or less in control, they had to take more risks, when we conceded the goal the reaction was good.”

“We have to be better in defense, have a little bit more possession. We were still trying to score, we finished strong.”

“I wanted a little bit more, we worked so hard.”

That’s the performance I’ve been waiting for from Perez. Glad to see Rafa dropped Joselu deeper and gave Perez more of a free run (I suppose more of a false nine position?). The kid ran at the right times, played the channels, and I was genuinely surprised that he came off given the Joselu looked a bit knackered.

Atsu had a tough day out. No concentration (see their first, where he got into a defensive position and then watched Gabbiadini run around the box), and poor passing. Unfortunately, Murphy made him look like a world beater.

Good point, but only we could gift two goals to a team that can’t buy a goal.

A point is good if we get 3 against Palace.
Pleased Perez got a goal, m.o.m. for me.
A striker in Jan is a must.

Rob Elliot’s not a bad keeper IMO, but he is slow to react and even slower to get down to the ground. Shown this a few times this season and it has cost us goals. If Sels had put in that performance he would have been destroyed on here; what with his first half cross-flap that nearly resulted in a goal.
You would think with his belly and gravity, getting down low would be a strength.

Thought we started slowly first fifteen minutes – grew into the game scored then sat back defending the 1-0 gave the ball away all to often and pgetting 11 behind the ball leaves us with a problem of there is no out ball.

and as uasual we go to sleep the first ten minutes after half time – letting them score – great response for the second with a excellent build up.

Lejuene sucked into making a silly foul for the penalty – up to then I thought he had a good game kept us in the agme first half with some excellent blocks.

Elliot thought hiss decision making was poor and his kicking also poor – but for me to many back passes to him today.

Yedlin lucky to stay on the field – mind you they got away with a couple of late- late tackles that did not even get a yello.

Joselu was poor today struggled on his own. mind you the whole of the team were poor at retaining possession a lot of poor passes even when not under pressure went astray.

Keep giving the ball away like we did today a good team is going to give ua a thumping

All-in-all I would of taken a point before the game yet dissapoited we did not come away with three and a much better start than I anticipated.

    Lochinvar,
We all know Jib has many important and influencial friends, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something in your match fixing theory.
