If Rafa Buys These Two Players – Two Newcastle Stars Likely to Be Sold In January – At A Profit

We keep seeing reports that Newcastle are checking on various players who they will try to sign in the upcoming January window.

And if yesterday’s performance is anything to go by we should be well placed in the Premier League table and hopefully in the top ten when January rolls around.

Two of the players we have been linked with are 26-year-old Turkish striker Cenk Tosun of Besiktas and 25-year-old central defender Jakub Jugas of SK Slavia Prague as targets in January.

And it didn’t go unnoticed yesterday that both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba were not in the squad where Newcastle played really well yesterday in getting a good 2-2 draw at Southampton.

While we should have won it, having just watched the game again, we could have lost it in the final 15 minutes.

And on review, we also think DeAndre Yedlin should have received a second yellow card in the second half for a poor tackle and been sent off.

So in that sense, it was a fair result – maybe?

Cenk Tosun – target for January

Rafa generally left players out yesterday who were playing in World Cup qualifiers, and that applied to both Mitro and Chancel.

But they have also not played much under Rafa, and it seems the gaffer is now placing his faith in Javier Manquillo at left-back and this lad can keep improving under Rafa as he plays more games.

It looks like Chancel playing at left back – where he has looked good – may not happen too many more times and Rafa does not like playing players out of position.

So if Rafa goes after Tosun and Jugas and can sign them in January he could well look for buyers for the two players we signed from Anderlecht in the summer of 2015 for around £20M for the two.

Tosun could cost up to around £17M, but we should get at least that for Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba is worth more than £10M so we could gain on the four deals – two out and two in.

And if there are no buyers for Mitro then Dwight Gayle could be the striker to leave if Tosun comes in.

Those transactions would mean Rafa can do the deals without having any money at all if Mike Ashley is still the owner in January, and with some cash to spare too.

It also looks very likely that Rafa wants to increase the strength of the side in January and we should also see Jack Colback sold for £5M or more or at least sent out on loan to a Championship club.

What do you think?

    Newcastle United statement

    NUFC statement:

As a result of increasing press speculation regarding the future of Newcastle United, the owner of the club, St. James Holdings Limited, wishes to clarify its intentions.
As one of the Premier League’s oldest and best supported football clubs – and for the benefit of its many fans and supporters in the UK and across the world – Newcastle United requires a clear direction and a path to a bright and successful future.
To give the club the best possible opportunity of securing the positioning and investment necessary to take it to the next level, at what is an important time in its history, its present ownership has determined that it is in the best interests of Newcastle United and its fans for the club to be put up for sale.
To give an incoming owner the maximum possible flexibility to make meaningful investment in the club, including in its playing squad, the sale process will give interested parties the opportunity of deferring substantial payments.
A process will now commence of identifying new ownership for the club that will be capable of delivering the sustained investment in and dedication to the club that is necessary for it to achieve its ambitions.

In football – news trails reality by several weeks
transfers tend to be sealed long before media reports them
this sale is probably quite advanced
I hope there are some leaks
otherwise this blog will go into meltdown

I thought we were owned by Mash Holdings but no matter the main thing is we hopefully will have new owners soon. Also not sure what they mean by deferred payments – I presume they mean pay in installments?
