point is we wud have lost that game under a different manager.

We’re proving difficult to beat now and every now and again (probably another 5 games at least) we’ll play just as bad…so it’s how many points we rescue from playing that badly will determine how quickly we get to safety.

Palace will quite rightly feel robbed today and we’re all absolutely delighted to get 3 points after playing so badly…well tough sh!t palace…sh!t happens

We’ll be safe by March at worst and in new hands with a massive transfer budget…so as that great song goes….thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiings…will only get betterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I really cannot see that Joselu is suddenly going to hit a seam and become a top centre forward.
There are one or two players who sell themselves as centre forwards but in the top flight cannot hit a barn door – players such as Gestede, Soldado, Janssen. I can now see why we got him cheap.

We’re doing well when you consider 3 of our 4 attacking players are contributing very little. Perez, Atsu, & Joselu could be upgraded easily in January, or maybe even next week with Merino, Mitrovic, and Murphy.

    jjust got
what did I think great 3 points but a poor display for most of the game until Merino and Diame came on.
With Shelvey in the team alongside Hayden and Perez the team is to predictable and easy to defend against. To manty square and back passes as there was lack of movement all over the pitch

All Hayden and Perez do is look for Shelvey who all to often looks for the Hollywood ball as the team are to static and tries to make things happen with long floated balls which are easy to cut out.

As soon as Diame and Merino came on the Palce players had two other players who could pass the ball and like to go forward and carry the ball or pass forward with a bit more pace and movement.

Palace oplayed the better football but at the same time looked unlikely to score unless a deflected goal or long shot.

My MOM was LeJuene who was outstanding – what a buy.
also Lascalles did his England chances no harm with a solid performance in front of Southgate

    my merit marks.
Elliot- 7 had one of the quitest games he will have, but needs to make up hgis mind quicker when passing out of defence.
Manqulla 7.5 his best game so far in a TOON shirt
LeJuene 9 – Oustanding defending got in some great tackles and blocks also very comfortable on the ball passes it well
Lascalles 8 – Another steady game and drove forward second half
Yedlin 6 – Our weak link in defence willing runner but got caught out of position to many times
Shelvey 7 – his passing was a Tad off today but tried to make things happen when the rest were standing still. Looks slow at times and gave away stupid free kicks at the end with his lack of tackling ability.
Hayden 6 – Ok but needs to do more with the ball than just pass it to Shelvey.
Ritchie 6 – poorest game this season to many passes went astray was loosing his head near the end – but still produced the pass/corner for the goal
Perez 6 – A lot of running around with no end result – anothr who gave the ball away all to often – and his control let him down badly today
Joselu 6 – started well but faded as the game went on could of easily been sent off if ref had given him second yellow
Atsu 6 Another who got into good positions but was wasteful with his crosses

Merino 7.5 made the difference in the TOON’s play when introduced and scored – help to loosen the shackles off shelvey – carried the ball forward and made a couple of good forward runs and capped his performance with his goal.
Diame 7 like Merino wanted the ball and again drove forward with the ball
Mirovich – not on long enough

Ugly win but we stole 3 points (all that matters). MOTM for me today was Yedlin (but just as easily Van Aanholt for missing that tap in from Loftus-Cheek – how he did not score I’ll never know but it saved our bacon).

    Thoughts for next match:

    – God has forsaken us if Ritchie doesn’t recover his form
    – Hope we drop Joselu and start Mitrovic.
    – Shelvey – Merino is obviously our best midfield pairing for passing and control but doubt we’ll see that so Hayden – Shelvey with Merino as impact sub is what I’d stay with
    – Desperately need Perez and Atsu to play better because we don’t have much in options on the bench.

Happy with our defenders for obvious reasons though they could be better passing and were slow to close down today… of course we were all around poor today so what can you do. Wonder if Diame’s performance was a one off or if that mix up with Lascelles really has lit a spark under him (which will do us a wonder of good as an impact sub).

MOTM for me today was Yedlin… saved us at least 3 times . Elliott also coralled that ball in that was going to be an easy goal

Yedlin MOTM..really?? For me it was his poorest game for us. For me it had to go to one of either Merino, Atsu, Leguene or Lascelles. I gave it to Merino as he transformed the game and the way we play as soon as he came on.

Really poor performance but an excellent result and we’re in the top 6 for now! Happy days.

That was a boring game and to be honest if Palace has a striker we could have been dead and buried, but thank god they didn’t. Here’s the thing for me, we need to play better at home yes, but when the games are just to hit and miss and we get a result then that’s all that maters. Yes I know we were lucky to get the result and some may say Merino’s goal had some luck to it but if you don’t jump and try to get that header then we don’t win.
The last time in the premier 2015/16 season after nine games we were sitting third from bottom, yes third from bottom. All these sky idiots and Im a journalist idiots that played for some team we have never heard of, I really want them to start eating there words. Here’s the first one, Newcastle will be fighting relegation all season, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. Oh Mr. Merson yes you, the idiot that thinks he’s now a journalist, sorry I think Newcastle will draw so its not looking good at home for the magpies. So any chance of a little apology next time you spout off about the next game, probably not as it takes a big man to apologize for his mistakes and I’m not sure your that humble. Keep up the fight Rafa and the team of not good enough players to be in the Premiership, not my words some Journalist’s from some paper we don’t really care about. Lets get to January, lets hope the club is sold to someone with the vision to want to take Newcastle to the next level and lets start making Newcastle one of the clubs people used to say, shit we have the Magpies at the weekend. Howay the Toon!!!!!!
