It was a difficult game yesterday and not one we will remember because Newcastle played well – we didn’t – and the game was not a good one to watch either, because the team struggled.
In the olden days we would have lost this game, but under Rafa Benitez we won it – simply because our lads never gave up the ghost and kept on playing.
A little bit of magic with four minutes to go from Matt Ritchie and Mikel Merino was enough to give Newcastle all three points.
St. James’ Park erupted – the game instantly became a better one.
Newcastle fans are now waking up this sunny Sunday morning with the club in 6th position in the league table.
Another great flag display yesterday
Here are some of the reactions.
He gets a lot of stick, but I have to say Diame played well when he came on, offered a lot more than Perez. Great 3 points, top 6 ?? #NUFC

For Rafa to have only lost 6 of 19 in the PL with a club that was in absolute turmoil when he rocked up is nothing short of magical. #NUFC

Rafa Benitez is some manager. #NUFC a limited side but organised and deservedly in top 6. Can see why they’re attractive for a takeover!
