In most games we play, Rafa Benitez usually concentrates on the strengths of the other side.
Even in the Championship he never took any side lightly, and he was proved correct a few times.
For example, we were beaten twice by Blackburn Rovers when they were in the bottom three in the league and ended up relegated to League One.
So you can never take any team lightly as Manchester United found out yesterday at newly promoted Huddersfield.
The home team won on merit 2-1 in what could have been one of their best results and best performances in their history.
They were absolutely terrific!
Mikel Merino – after scoring late winner yesterday
Brighton also beat West Ham away 3-0 on Friday night, so all three promoted sides won their games this weekend.
And maybe this season all three will stay up in the Premier League as a testament to the improving standards of the Championship.
After the game yesterday Rafa reminded the local journalists that he had said Palace were a good team before the game:
“We knew before, because obviously my staff analyzed the last games and we knew they were a good team.”
“I was telling the players and I was telling you, the journalists, but you didn’t trust me!”
“It’s always very difficult. When a team is at the bottom of the table, you can say 100 times, ‘Be careful, they are a good team, they create chances, they have quality.”
” They have players with ability, players who can pass people and they can make the difference on their own.”
With Newcastle in 6th place, it’s going to be a pleasant 8 days before we play at Burnley a week tomorrow.
A win in that game and we will reach for the blood pressure pills – as a safety precaution.
Did we ever say it was unbelievable to have Rafa Benitez as our manager?
