Rafa Identifies New Goalkeeper(s) For Newcastle In January

The Sun is reporting that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to be brought in during the January transfer window.

Rob Elliot is the man between the sticks at the moment with Karl Darlow the backup, and Karl had an excellent season as the number one last term when we were promoted from the Championship.

But for some reason, Rafa wants to bring in a new number one and tried to sign Pepe Reina and Willy Caballero during the summer but was not successful.

There was even news that a deal for Caballero was very close, but the Argentine decided to sign on at Chelsea and warm the bench there.

Geronimo Rulli – 6ft 3ins 25-year-old Argentinian

The Sun is reporting that Newcastle are tracking two top south American goalkeepers.

The primary target seems to be 6ft 3ins 25-year-old Argentinian Geronimo Rulli, who plays for Real Sociedad and is currently valued at £15M.

In the summer of 2016, Rulli was signed by Manchester City for £4M but was then loaned to Real Sociedad, and he made the move permanent in January of this year.

Since May of this year, Rulli has been called up to Argentina’s senior squad but has yet to secure his first cap.

The other goalkeeper being tracked is 31-year-old Uruguayan Fernando Muslera, who has been the Uruguayan International since 2009 for his country and has 92 caps.

The 6ft 3ins goalkeeper has been playing at Galatasaray since 2011.

Fernando Muslera (shown above) is rated at about £8M.

We’ll have to wait and see if either goalkeeper comes in during January or next summer.

Pepe Reina will become a free agent in the summer when his contract at Napoli runs out.

Maybe Rafa will try to get his former Liverpool goalkeeper to Newcastle at that time?

What do you think?

Can either of them reliably pass a ball to a player on their own team?

Are they at the same level, or better, than our current contingent?

    If yes: sign ’em up.

Just seen that people are calling for Shelvey to be banned for his celebration in front of Cabaye, citing Van Persie’s ban at Besiktas as reason.

We need to get them all hobbies so they can find some joy in their life.

£500m warchest and HBA coming back, which reality am I in. 🙂

That was on the beeb sports text gossip page.

Good win and despite what I’ve read about the game on the blog and elsewhere I’m looking forward to seeing it for myself, presumably NUFC TV will be showing it?

Difficult to say which part is the most annoying of the “war chest” stories. The stupidity of the assumptions themselves or the reasoning that fans will actually be that gullible to believe them.

We need a new keeper. Elliot does not cut it for me and Rafa does not like Darlow. Personally I would have Darlow in.

Singing and driving are much the same. Practioners of said activities truly believe that they are the best in the world. Some amateur singers think their voices are as fine a lark singing in the morning, when in fact the sounds the expel cause GBH to the ear. Equally once some folk pass their driving test – they suddenly become Louis Hamilton when in reality they shouldn’t be allowed on the roads.
Listening to someone with a fine and intune voice would be most pleasurable, however, if my ears were getting battered by someone crooning out of tune I think I would protest along the lines of “Excuse me my good man would it be possible for you to desist from singing, there’s a good chap”.

If this failed I would have to resort to putting my demand in an alternative form, perhaps something like :-
” How yee with the Sports Direct tea towel on ya heed STFU or I’ll stick ma fist in ya gob”.

If the 500 million is true, HBA will be a non starter, can’t see Rafa being interested anyway he’s to lazy and only plays for himself, unfortunately his moments of brilliance do not out way the amount of times he goes missing and is disinterested
