This Bodes Very Well For Newcastle In The Premier League This Season

Rafa Benitez has a very good record in the Premier League at Newcastle.

This season we lost at home to Tottenham in the following four games we have three wins and a draw – 10 points.

In the season before last in the five home games that Rafa was in charge of, we drew two and won three – 11 points.

So in the 10 games, Rafa has been in charge of Newcastle in the Premier league we have picked up 21 points and suffered only one defeat.

And that loss was with 10 men for half the game against Spurs after Jonjo Shelvey had himself sent off in the first game of this season.

Rafa Benitez – 21 points from 10 PL games so far

Averaging more than 2 points a game at home means we could pick up more than 38 points this season at home and we already have 10 of our 14 points from home games.

Rafa was asked in the Chronicle today if he thought teams would think St. James’ Park was a difficult place to come to:

“Yes and I think late goals help that,”

“I was thinking when I made the substitutions that we still had plenty of time, we stayed calm.

“I knew we would have chances and it’s just important to have that confidence that a late goal will come.”

Benitez is very pragmatic, and the squad will have extra time to prepare this week for the tough game at Burnley next Monday night.

A win and good performance in that game would be excellent, and we’d even take a draw in that game.

What do you think?

been a long time since st james’ was a fortress. Keegan used to have it almost unbeatable here, bodes well because the way we set up, I think we’ll notch up a few points against more progressive teams on the road too.
Unbelievable that really rafa has got us to 7th largely playing 9 players that started in the championship with the 2 additions being Manquillo and Joselu (tho lejeune seems to have stepped in too lately) but if you told anyone in august all we’d add to the line up was Joselu (and hed be ahead of gayle/mitro) and Manquillo and we’d have been having panic attacks. Even more amazing to think if Dummett was fit that would be even less new signings in the starting 11
