Rafa Looking For Some Bargain Buys In Upcoming Transfer Windows

Summer signing Mikel Merino has been an excellent buy for Newcastle since we first got him on loan from Borussia Dortmund in August on loan.

That loan has been turned into a permanent deal, and reports say the fee was as low as £6M – a bargain for a player of Merino’s ability and potential.

Merino isn’t just a top young player who is currently starring for the Spanish U21 side, but he has huge ambitions which he believes he can achieve at a Rafa Benitez led Newcastle United.

There’s news in the Chronicle today that Rafa is keen to uncover other young stars for Newcastle and bring them to the club.

And the scouts seem to be concentrating on the Bundesliga as a priority.

Mikel Merino – terrific young player at Newcastle for £6M!

We have tried to bring top young players to the club in the past and have not been too successful at that.

But things have changed now, and Rafa is a massive draw for top young players who know they can get better under the guidance of the Spanish manager.

This is what Rafa has said in the Chronicle about the current scouting activities going on at the moment:

“It’s too early. We’re watching players but that’s it, nothing else. We have to concentrate on our football now.”

“Our scouting department are out there and we are watching a lot of players.”

“You can’t stop agents talking or clubs talking who want to put players on the market, but there is no target we are currently talking to.”

“We are monitoring a lot of players.”

“But we are focusing on football and the scouts know what they have to do.”

It’s important to set up an efficient scouting team and also to bring players through the club from a young age.

The last we want to do is to go out and buy a team like Chelsea, and Manchester City did in the past.

And we don’t want to spend a ridiculous £193M for any one player – that’s silly.

We need to have players coming through the system, and that’s one thing Rafa Benitez seems determined to do at Newcastle.

Sounds good to us.

3rd time lucky without a new post lol

Who would people like to see signed if we get took over then and money isn’t too much of an object?

I am not a big name player fan personally but would love us to pick up some of the talented young players already doing well in the PL. Although not massively tested yet I think Richarlison from Watford would be a great buy for out left wing. Young, exciting and really looks the business. Think he would be a considerable bit more than the £10M Watford paid for him a few months back though

    @Jesper

Sandro has not been great for Everton but you could argue hes been played out of position as has Sigurdsson who was excellent for Swansea ! Both of them would have fitted in nicely into our team as no 10 and no 9 !

Would be interesting to see how Abraham turned out if we had signed him as well as he is starting to look decent for Swansea now

Fair play to rafa. That money not spent on Abraham looks foolishly saved now. I didn’t think he was good enough but he is a lot better than Agadoo. Can anyone confirm that Staveley was invited to nufc by rafa? If so, that tells me she’s gonna be the winner and has probably assured him that PCP are not going to lose the financial war to win nufc

    Cyprus,
I think the game is well and truly up for him and even if he didn’t have this land deal coming up surely he realises we’ll never ever be worth more than we are at this exact moment in our history. If he doesn’t back Rafa then he’ll be gone and it doesn’t seem like he has any intention of keeping him happy, he was happy to gamble our promotion and Rafa walking for the sake of 13M pound and we all know what happened in the summer. If Rafa went through lack of ambition we’d more than likely see scenes a lot worse than 2009 and he’d be lucky to get 100M for the club if at all.

    Munster,
It’s false economy to the max. We’re now stuck with Joselu for the next three years where as if we’d took Abraham for a fifth of the price we’d be better placed to spend big on a striker next summer. Joselus wages over the next three years will eclipse the loan fee for Abraham, in fact the extra goals he might of scored would have paid his fee in placement money by the looks of things.

Of course profit makes the world go round but what I was driving at was if Ashley refuses an offer of say £330m to make a profit of say £75m and digs in at selling at £380m to make £125m profit and no-one’s prepared to pay the price he’s asking then he’s just being greedy beyond reason.

You’d overlooked the roots of the Romani people – from northern India. Perhaps a little before the 1920s don’t you agree?

This is the property company Ashley works hand in glove with – providing the finance

When you look at some of the stuff they do
You can see why it has his full attention now
Strangely it was the sale of the Strawberry site
that may have first got him interested.

I think it’s closer £5 Billion and if I’m right I won’t be leaving the site. Or as I previously said in current footy currency 25 Neymars.

I wouldn’t leave the site anyway, I’d hang around as a spectator if nowt else. To much fun with all the spats and actual interesting stuff.

I asked the same question a few days ago and gave as my starters, Forsberg, Muller and Lewendoski

No offer has been made yet, the transfer budgets getting mentioned is pure speculation, it could range from zero to god knows how many millions, how can we possibly ask a fellow blogger how big the transfer budget will be when we have no idea who the owner will be.

The roots of words is quite interesting, ie Geordies I believe stems from us being supporters of King George, although the are a lot of other theories.

If any has read the Uthred books the original place names were either Danish of Anglo Saxon and but for Alfred The Great we’d have been a province of Denmark and Odinist rather than predominantly (now) Christian, probably. Just more useless info to whilst away the slow plod to Monday.

We first talked about a takeover around July and although I’m very skeptical I do believe you, i’m just not ready to get excited as I’ve learnt my lesson in the last ten years of Ashley at the helm.

I hope and pray as much as anyone that this takeover happens but I cant invest any energy in the discussions or good mood just yet, couldn’t take another kick in the balls from Ashley.

To many false dawns and let downs, couldn’t cope with another, so I’m keeping my powder dry until it’s 100 percent a done deal and a new owner has the keys to sjp and possibly the keys to the city if they actually have serious ambitions for NUFC.

I do like the upbeat mood on the blog due to the talk.
