Newcastle Player In Awe Of What Just Happened

The Newcastle fans displayed another excellent set of flags on Saturday for the home game against Crystal Palace.

The lads and lasses doing this excellent work deserve great praise.

And the flags showed what fans want from their players is fight, desire and hunger and that about sums up a Rafa Benitez side at Newcastle.

While Newcastle had an off day on Saturday against a well organized Crystal Palace side that desire to win was still there in full view, and we eventually got all 3 points with a late goal from substitute Mikel Merino.

And captain Jamaal Lascelles was on one of the flags alongside manager Rafa Benitez, and he has said before the game he had to do a double take.

This is what the young and talented Newcastle captain  told the Chronicle:

“I had to take a double take! It was unbelievable and I thank them for that, it’s crazy.”

“Looking at it I got goosebumps it was just crazy. I could not thank the fans enough.”

“They also nominated me for the player of the month but I couldn’t have received it if other players hadn’t have been doing their job.”

“Collectively it could have been numerous players.”

“There was a little bit of frustration creeping in on Saturday because they probably looked at Palace and see they aren’t doing well and we’re at home.”

“As players, and the fans will know this themselves, in the Premier League it’s about whoever is on top of their game on the day.”

“So we just need to remain focused and stick to our jobs and game plan.”

“We need to be patient and defend well – we will have something.”

Newcastle finished the weekend in 7th place in the league with a good 14 points from our first 9 games.

And now we face a tough trip to Burnley next Monday evening.

Burnley are also a very well organized side who are difficult to beat so it will not be an easy game by any means.

But a win in that game would see Newcastle really flying high.

That’s what we are hoping for.
