The one player of the six players who were brought in over the summer and who is not getting too much playing time at Newcastle is 22-year-old winger Jacob Murphy.
Jacob has made 5 appearances for the team with two starts but Rafa Benitez today has said the youngster is improving and doing well in training.
Rafa seems to like the former Norwich winger’s application, and the manager says he will get his chance.
Jacob was our most expensive signing over the summer with the club paying out £12M to Norwich City for the England U21 International.
Jacob Murphy and Rafa Benitez talk during training
This is what Benitez told the Chronicle:
“You can use the money as an excuse for anything.” “But Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu also cost us money.”
“The main thing is not the money, we signed a player for four or five years – who is a young player – who needed Premier League experience.”
“He is getting better.”
“In every training session there is improvement from him and he is working hard trying to get better.”
“I am really pleased with everything. I think he will be a good player for us during the season and also in the future.”
“He is still a young player.”
It’s vital that Jacob keeps training hard and understands that Rafa is making him into a better player at Newcastle.
Jacob played 42 times for Norwich with 9 goals and spent time out on loan at six different clubs to amass another 80 first team appearances with 17 goals.
In the 2015-2016 season, he played 42 times for Coventry City with 10 goals.
