Newcastle Player Issues Fighting Message

DeAndre Yedlin has turned out to be an excellent buy from Tottenham for £5M  and his form for Newcastle since he signed for us last year shows he’s now a much better player than he was on loan at Sunderland the season before last.

He is just one of the many players that Rafa has improved since they arrived on Tyneside.

And with what on paper looks a very ordinary squad, Rafa Benitez has us playing well, and we have a good 14 points from our first 9 games.

If we can keep that up, we could end up in the top eight with around 59 points – and that was good enough for 8th place last season.

Rafa is starting to get some credit for what Newcastle have achieved so far this season, and we just hope we can keep it up and be in the top eight most of the season.

DeAndre Yedlin – in action at St. Mary’s

And unless there is an incredible collapse – which we don’t expect – this will not be a relegation fighting season as most of those (expert?) pundits had predicted in the summer.

This is what Yedlin has said in the Chronicle today, and the American has some fighting words:

“It’s great but we can’t get ahead of ourselves.” “There’s still a lot more to do and it’s still so early in the season.”

“We will just keep pushing and try to get the results we need.” “It will be tough – 100%. Every game in this league is tough.”

“People will probably look at the win against Crystal Palace, bottom of the table, and think it was easy but it wasn’t easy by any means.”

“It took literally the whole game to beat them. They had chances as well and every team will be a threat.

“Every week it will be tough and every game we will have to battle. We’re prepared for it.”

“We’re prepared and ready for the battle ahead. The win against Crystal Palace wasn’t the prettiest but we’re happy with three points.”

“It was a great win because we fought and battled hard. That’s what we have to do.”

“It was great for him to come on like he did and score such a huge goal for us.”

“That’s exactly what we need. It just shows what we are doing here and sums up our team. “

“The guys are willing to do whatever they can to help the team.”

“We’re happy for him and it’s great he is able to contribute like that.”

Here’s our position in the Premier League table at the moment and we hope it can be even better after our game at Burnley on Monday night.

Here’s hoping.

sing in the corner…you’re most certainly right there are much better players out than Hayden out there if you have money to spend 😉

    sitc,
Hopefully the 27 year old Joselu will improve enough to save us spending 15M on a striker next year.

I quite like it when our club can pluck promising young players from relative obscurity, develop them and make them into successes, while indoctrinating them in what it means to be a Geordie.
Rather that than recruit an exclusively flat pack team of ready made stars for billions of quid who are up their own asses from the start and don’t give a damn about the area or its people.

Personally I don’t think Joselu needs to improve that much about his game. If the ball starts hitting the back of the net he will be already making the huge leap across the chasm to the imaginary 15 mil 🙂

When we sign a better quality striker in Jan or the summer Joselu will undoubtedly be a back up. Until then, he pulls on the shirt and I would give him more of a chance than labelling him a poor bargain basement buy, based mainly on the fact he cost only 5mil.

Sing…Hayden is young and still considered a prospect. At £2.5M is a steal…

…but lets not get into the whole Hoosy Loo saga again and lets not draw parallels that are not there 🙂

I liked when Yedlin spoke of his season on Wearyside.
The Mackems put him in accommodation in Gateshead
    He said
I used to cross the bridge and go out in the Toon
I never went out in Sunlun

    sitc,
I’m not judging him on his price tag, like I’ve said I think he’s a decent bench player but doesn’t seem to have the confidence to lead the line.

HITC – think they can suggest Shelvey could be good for them at West Ham. Nothing to do then with the fact that they’re on the ropes in the PL, Bilic is on his last legs and that their Stadium is rented tourist attraction. What next – a swap for Andy Carrol ? I could write this crud – oh wait I just did.

I’m not sure if I’d be to bothered about Shelvey leaving.

He has undoubted talent but I still can’t work out is he lazy or just not very mobile, if we spent all the money we got for him on a replacement I wouldn’t mind one bit.

He could add a lot more to his game just by upping his work rate and getti

I’ve always thought that Shelvey was one of the most hard working players on the pitch for us.

Can’t see why people think he’s lazy.

Way off topic, but…Whether or not we’re punching above our weight so far and regardless of the topic of how many championship players we still have playing for us – I’m so impressed by the refreshingly upbeat attitudes that our lads show during their interviews, and on the pitch even when we’re playing crap.

I do miss our sexy football (I’m not referring to Gullit) but the thing I’m most pleased with is the heart our lads have shown!

It’s ironic how we whinge about Ashley’s lack of spending yet we love to see someone like Merino come in under the radar for peanuts. Have to say the scouting seems to have picked up with people of the ”right stuff” coming in now, as opposed to the flakey buys of Cabella, Thauvin, Riviere etc.

It always seems like previously we could never get everything working in synergy. When Ash did loosen the purse strings it was placed in the hands of McLaren and an increasingly ineffective Carr. Maybe going down was a needed and necessary evil to flush out all the totally inappropriate mercenaries who had made their way to sjp.

Re-Shelvey, on his day a great talent, but always a potential red card and he never looks particularly fit. I’m sure if a takeover comes to pass, RB won’t be short of replacement options.

Hardly significant news but worth a look, although he didn’t make it at Leeds unless Rafa knows why

Newcastle United are interested in signing former Leeds United man Alfonso Pedraza from Villarreal, with reports suggesting that they could be willing to try and persuade him to come back to England, according to the International Business Times.
The media outlet claims the Magpies, as well as Southampton, have been closely monitoring the winger’s progress and are considering making an offer for him during the January transfer window.
Rafa Benitez is thought to be interested in bringing the Spanish attacker to St. James’ Park after his performances in La Liga have attracted plenty of interest around Europe, with the former Leeds man touted to be one of the best academy prospects to have come out of his team’s system.

That used to really get my goat, they churned out the right character malarkey to excuse lack of activity then bring in people like Marveaux, Gosling, Cabaye and Debuchy.

What is the defi option of a Championship player, someone who is only good enough to play in the Championship I suppose. Danny Simpson was often accused of being a Championship player but now has a league title medal and a CL QF appearance.

Not that i think there’s a shred of truth in the story, but I don’t think shelvey going to West ham would be a terrific blow, he’s long been an odd-shaped puzzle piece for us, and this season we have proved we can manage pretty well without him. In fact I would say his returning to the team upset the balance a little bit, and has applied some brakes to Merinos rapid progress.

I wonder, meanwhile, how Andy contemplates the prospect of being in a relegation team?

Big stigma for a player getting relegated twice, not too many teams want a Jonah in their ranks.

How about Di Maria, He isn’t getting a start at PSG . he is 29yrs and super fit If we got him at a knockdown price and he did us 3 seasons then he wouldn’t owe us a penny. This is the quality of player we should be looking to buy.
