Pundits Starting To Have Second Thoughts On Newcastle

Paul Merson has predicted a 2-1 win for Newcastle on Monday night at Turf Moor, and that’s the first time this season he has predicted a Newcastle win this season.

And now that seems to be catching on with another pundit – former Newcastle coach Mark Lawrenson also predicting a 2-1 win for Newcastle.

But Paul predicted the exact score against Crystal Palace last Saturday when he predicted a 1-0 win, so maybe Mark’s view of Newcastle had already turned last week.

Mark Lawrenson – BBC pundit forecasts Newcastle win

We think these expert pundits are starting to realize just how good Rafa Benitez is after he has emerged from the wilderness of the second division this season – and he seems as good as ever.

But Burnley under Sean Dyche are very much like Newcastle – neither team has any world-class players, but each team is well organized and hard to beat.

This is what BBC pundit Lawrenson has said about the game on Monday night:

“I have been very impressed by Newcastle, who have been doing much better than I have been predicting they will.”

“Much like Burnley, the Magpies are well organised and well-drilled, and are difficult to beat.”

“This game is going to be very close, but I am backing Newcastle to come out on top – just.”

“Prediction: 1-2”

For this away game we will be happy enough if we can get a draw, but Rafa and the players know that wins are what will keep us in the top eight in the league table.

Burnley are just one place and one point below us in the league table.

Liverpool, who are valued at more than £1.5B by their owners are two places below Newcastle.
