Fans Have Their Say – It’s All About The Manager – Rafa Is A Geordie!

Things are really looking up at Newcastle, and it seems like the takeover deal has every chance of succeeding.

That’s the one led by Amanda Staveley, but we have to remember there are reported to be five different groups doing due diligence on the club at the moment.

But if Amanda Staveley does become the new owner we will be an attractive club indeed.

The fans know it’s all about one man at Newcastle United – and that’s Mr. Rafa Benitez.

And it seems he is going to be rewarded for sticking it out with Newcastle last season in the second division and getting us straight back up to the Premier League as Champions.

And while the expert pundits expected us to be fighting relegation we are 7th top of the league at the moment.

The squad we had two years under Steve McClaren was probably stronger than what we have today.

If Rafa had that squad today, we’d be doing even better this season.

Just a thought.

Rafa Benitez – worth his weight in gold

It’s small wonder the fans are praising the Spanish manager, and Rafa is the man to bring the club back to greatness.

And for some of us old geezers – the sooner, the better.

Howay The Lads!!

My fair point got all mixed up in Ed’s posts after post marathon. Is it 5 now Ed? Is it safe to post?

Again it’s kinda strange with 5 consortiums signing a NDA and we know absolutely nothing about 4 of them and what they are doing…but the media seems to know everything the 5 contender is doing…

The media is even reporting her representatives holding meeting with Newcastle to discuss Rafa’s diet….I mean his transfer budget!!!

…sure they are because that is the concern of Mr. Ashley!

Jesper that’s a good point – somebody at toon is obviously leaking this info to the press , sort of makes me feel the stavely stories are off the mark and they are trying to make the others bid more for us – fairly standard business practice

Im not sure merino at #10 is actually as good an idea as people think.

He certainly shown in national side tat he has a dcent finish on him but in our set up hes perfect for sitting deep, winning the ball back, protecting it well and releasing it.

At no 10 i worry he’ll just run himself into the ground pressing defenders and deeper midfielders while not being positioned best for releasing the ball and starting attacks.

Id actually keep perez there for now or maybe flirt with the idea of jonjo late in games due to his long shot ability. I also think jonjo would be better at pressing high up the pitch than merino. Having been brought up in te english game he’ll be more accustomed to the constant running (although he has been lazy at times).

Surely no 10 is a jan priority along with lb and striker. That would be a good window. A perfect window would include another winger too as we are light there and i worry what will happen when the winter fixtures pile up with ritchie putting in the shifts he has.

I thought as much yesterday. Especially with Liverpool owners denying the £1.5bn offer. The cynic in me thinks that may have been mind games at work trying to convince other bidders to step up in light of pcp’s potential firepower.

Are you honestly suggesting that someone who studied at 5under1and Uni can’t be a toon fan!
What is it next, you’ve already said anyone who gets the Metro to games is a plastic fan, according to Jibletlaw, in my reckoning there can’t be more than 5K “proper fans.

I know the thought of him staying for another 10 year tenure would break most toon fans Hearts… Mine included,But all we have is media drivel at the moment.
The Day it is announced Ashley has gone will for me be the biggest moment as a Nufc supporter and the Happiest. The club was becoming a rotten apple.. You only have to listen to past players as in Shay Given to realise that.
If Sparky has knowledge that indeed Ashley will be gone before Christmas then we should all raise a glass to it

Merino should stay deep. His display, sitting in front of tbe back four against West Ham(?), when he won every tackle and especially header was the best in that position since early Tiote. Leave well alone and let him do his thing!
I am certainly not a fan, he drives me nuts, but leave Perez (or Diame) as the 10. At least it is round pegs in round holes and it is working for the team.
Takeover or not January may not be the best time to Invest heavily, so we may have to get used to what we have now.
We will improve. Leguene will get better, Dummet will come back, Murphy will be introduced slowly, just as Atsu was last year, Ritchie can do better, Shelvey will win a game or two on his own and one of the strikers may even go on a scoring run?
If the fat controller goes in the meantime, bonus!!
Perhaps the most exciting thing about this side is that I could very easily make a case to replace every player In it!

Earlier comments about the relative value and perceived appeal of Liverpool raises the question of brand appeal to the global market.
For decades Man Utd and Liverpool in particular have been the clubs that many kids and overseas supporters have graduated towards. However clubs like brands have a shelf life and their appeal starts to change or diminish with generations. Arsenal and Chelsea are not as loved other than their local fans and tourists so from a brand perspective are tired and worn. The new kids on the block are Tottenham with Kane, new state of the art stadium and Under Armour brand sponsors providing global recognition. If you’re going to invest you invest in the future and Liverpool and Man Utd have lost their cache. Meanwhile Newcastle with iconic and identifiable images of the City, next generation Science and Medical facilities and a growing young student population from around the world is step by step becoming the new hit brand. With Rafa at the helm, visible branding in the black and white strip ( the Adidas version at Juventus looks good ) and The Cathedral on the Hill and young players such as Lascalles showing potential you can see the possibilities and global fan base appeal. Amanda and her investors need growth potential for a return on their investment and its Newcastle that has it in abundance. Win something and get into Europe in due course is what it’s all about in football terms and that’s the growth curve and when the next generation global fan base will disregard their tired and dirty red tops for sometnjnv unique and all together more ..well sexy in the brand sense.

A few topics back I posted my squad building analysis, but I just wondered if anyone knows where you can get the official list of 25 registered premier league players.

If Haidara is fit and registered, I think he is, wouldn’t it be about time we had a left footer in at left back again.

Do the Mackems still advertise at Newcastle Airport ? That’s a waste of what little money they have left for sure but we can all have a laugh at that when going on holiday.

Hooded Claw @22 – no the Mackems don’t go on holiday, but they like a day out at the Regional Capital’s International airport to gawp in wonder at those big pointy things with wings that look like big feathery birds they see down at Roker sea front. Latest reports are that two fans have been arrested for throwing stale bread near the runway.

We stayed in Albir one year and met some Makens who owned a restaurant in the town, really nice bunch of folks, we don’t have to be nasty about them all of the time!!

If the rumour did turn out to be correct and the 3 players in question were targets.

The most needed by us at the moment would be Carroll imo

I reckon there is only one group interested in buying Newcastle United. The other anonymous interested parties are fictional, contrived by Ashley’s PR team to try and expedite a quick sale to the PCP group while trying to extract as much money from them as possible.
The, alleged, Liverpool £1.5 Billion offer is PCP’s countermove to portray they have more than one club in their sights, to get Ashley’s team to moderate their expectations
