Newcastle’s Team For Burnley Could Have Shelvey, Merino And Hayden All In Starting Lineup

Rafa will have selection problems for the game at Burnley on Monday night that will be televised live around the world.

That’s because Rafs has only one player in the squad not available – and that’s local lad Paul Dummett.

Paul was injured in the first 40 minutes of the season with a severe hamstring injury and is expected back in late November.

Mikel Merino was the hero and our Man of the Match for the last game against Crystal Palace at home, even though he didn’t start the game.

Sean Dyche – Burnley’s talented manager –
trying to smile?

Mikel scored the winner with a good header after 86 minutes.

In that game, Ayoze Perez had an off day and maybe Rafa will give the 21-year-old Spanish U21 International Merino a start in the withdrawn striker role.

It was a bit of a dour game last time out but our lads never gave up and fought for the cause and that finally resulted in all 3 points.

So we don’t expect too many changes to the side.

Here’s the starting eleven we think Rafa could choose for Monday night’s game at Turf Moor.

Elliot
Yedlin Lejeune Lascelles (c) Manquillo
Hayden Shelvey
Ritchie Merino Atsu
Joselu

Rafa could keep Perez in the number 10 position but we don’t think a fit-again Dwight Gayle will get a start.

There will be some good players on Monday night who don’t even make the bench.

Difficult to beat Burnley, especially with a blunt strike force. Rafa could also push Perez forward and rest Joselu, but using Merino at #10 would make our midfield more robust away from home.

It is time to give Mitro his chance, his run of starts!!! He has only played 30 minutes this season! We may finally get Merino in the number 10 position where he belongs and Perez on the bench where he belongs! Notice the goalscorers list, find the two players with the least amount of game time on the list. Did you find them, Mitro and Aarons, they should both be playing IMO! Aarons has zero minutes in the league, why? Oh and shouldn’t Joselu’s 2 goals be credited to apposing defenders?.
