Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson took Newcastle to win on Monday night at Burnley for the first time this season and we didn’t know whether to take that as good news or bad news at the time.
Newcastle did not play well in what was a poor game at Turf Moor and Paul has come out and said he was disappointed with Newcastle in that game.
He wasn’t the only one.
But the news is that Paul still takes us to win at home against Bournemouth on Saturday so that may be another red flag again for the Magpies?
Paul Merson – still predicts 2-1 win for Newcastle
This is what Merson has said about the game on Saturday:
“I was really disappointed with Newcastle on Monday night in their 1-0 loss at Burnley on if I’m being honest, the only plan they looked like having was Jonjo Shelvey.”
” It was a game you thought, ‘go and try and win here and kick on,’ but it did not look good to me.”
“Bournemouth got a good result at Stoke, but I am going to go 2-1 to Newcastle.”
Three in four Newcastle fans think we can win this game and it will, therefore, be a shock if we cannot get all 3 points from this game.
But it will be very tough to beat a good and well organized Bournemouth side who played well in their 1-0 home defeat by Chelsea on Saturday.

I’m sure we are all awaiting enlightenment, especially from Amanda.
I think you’ll find it’s JohnJ who initiating his son into the Toon religion, I just copied and pasted his comment about Len White.
But if you are still around John I hope it’s a good experience for him.

Comment #62Essex Geordie Bill – yes that goal rings a bell with me but not sure if it was in that game or not but I have found the following on the internet
“Ken McKenzie, the Newcastle reporter for The Journal, described Newcastle’s second goal during a 4-1victory over Man City in 1958;
“A solo dribble by Len White from 15 yards inside his own half ending with a great 12-yard shot into the net past the advancing Bert Trautmann, the best goalkeeper in football, made memorable the burial of the relegation blues in the St James’ Park floodlights last night. The crowd of 53,280 cheered a back to form Newcastle off the field for a stirring show.” That Ryan Giggsesque goal helped keep Newcastle in the top flight.” HWTL’s

Comment #65To add to my previous post
“Newcastle record: 245 appearances, 197 goals. What a record. He is a 3rd highest total goal scorer in history, behind only Alan Shearer (206) and Jackie Milburn (201). What is so impressive is that a lot of Len’s appearances came as a winger. Furthermore, Shearer need 395 appearances to reach his 206 goals, whilst Wor Jackie needed 399.” Wish we had him now eh!

If I remember correctly we beat ManC 4-1 more than once. We used to look forward to them as easy games, times have changed a bit since then. 🙂

Comment #67John and he never won an England cap, closest he got was in a representative game that wasn’t classed as a full international.
He played in that game with Johnny Haynes and gelled very well, but I suppose it was the old southern bias where NE players never got caps, well rarely.

Comment #69We’ll drop points consistently away in this league, and we’ll drop points consistently at home too against the senior sides. These home games against two thirds of the sides in the league that we are in direct competition with are key, and of course can easily be lost on the day. Big match for us this weekend as we strive to maintain confidence and momentum. Feeling positive, but also a little nervous. Bournemouth will be excited about playing at St Jameses, and they need the points, and they’ll believe they can win.

The FA probably picked southern based players
to save on travelling expenses.
My dad was once at a Scotland vs England
game at Hampden
Travelling back on the train he recognised the late ,
great Wilf Mannion sitting on his suitcase in the corridor
On talking to Wilf he discovered that the FA had only
provided him with a 3rd class travel warrant.
He’d just played in front of 110,000 and the FA paid
him 12s 6d travelling !!!!

Comment #72How about Paul Merson takes the Sunderland job.
Then every game he can tell them they’re going to loose in advance but as he won’t be on TV then we won’t have to see him telling us what we already know.
Has a certain attraction don’t you think ?

Brilliant – I was trying to work that one out as well but your Goggle translator is better than my Google translator so didn’t post that.
Must be a North-South divide or something to do with atmospheric pressure as my Freeview has been dodgy for days.

Comment #80EGB …You’re right about Len White playing with Johnny Haynes, it was for the Football League representative side. He scored a hat trick in 8 minutes ( i googled that bit) and I seem to remember Haynes saying after the game that LW was the best centre forward he had ever played with ,but still no full England cap came his way.I was a young boy then and LW was my hero, a true legend never to be forgotten by me or by thousands of other fans of around my age who will always have fond memory’s of him.
