Benitez – We’ll Try To Do Our Best – But Here’s Why Bournemouth Will Be Very Difficult

Newcastle have a decent record at home this season, and we have amassed 10 of our 14 points at St. James’ Park.

It will be another sell-out crowd of over 52,000 today for the visit of AFC Bournemouth today.

The Cherries, like the Magpies, are a well-drilled and organized side and could be hard to break down.

They are also an excellent counter-attacking side like Newcastle so they will be a tough test today.

But after losing a very close game at Turf Moor last Monday night, it will be essential to get back to our winning ways this afternoon.

Rafa Benitez – Bournemouth will be difficult

In typical Geordie style, a win and we will all be absolutely delighted, but a second defeat in a row and maybe the sky will be falling in?

Given those two choices, we’ll take a win anytime.

🙂

Here is some of what Benitez has said in the Chronicle today:

“When you have 15 days between games it’s more important to win because you’re happier.”

“We will try to do our best.” “Bournemouth will be very difficult.”

“They are a good team who know how to play in the Premier League.

“They know how to manage in the position they’re in and they’re not panicking.”

“They counter-attack well, have good pace and go forward well so it won’t be easy.”

“If we can get three points we will have 15 days waiting for Man United and we’ll be happy.”

Here’s where we stand in the league at the moment, and 3 points will take us to 17 points after 11 league games – and that would be very good.

Our next game is two weeks today at Old Trafford – isn’t that 14 days away?

Bournemouth have only scored 6, this season, conceding 14.
Top scorer Andrew Surman with 2.
Lost 4 won 1 away – beat Stoke 2-1, last away game.

Just one thing niggling at me for today’s game..
Little Jermaine was supposed to be struggling with an injury, but it seems he might start.
He’s gonna get some abuse today..he does like playing against us. We have to keep him tied up or he will punish us again.
It’s going to be another nip and tuck battle, both teams not keen on having the ball and the onus to dominate.
I really hope Joselu has a good afternoon and gets on the score sheet today. Pressure on him is building and he needs his confidence boosting, a goal then I think he will settle.
One things for certain, our fans at the game are still behind him.

But Bournmouth are missing a few other big players, I don’t know much about some of their back up players but they are weakened at the moment. I will go for 2.0 to us.

We need to win some free kicks around their box for Ritchie or Shelvey to crash home – about time we did that.
Think Atsu and Ritchie can deliver a result if they make the runs they are capable of and any crosses hit the mark for headers or poachers in the box.
Wonder if Murphy will get a start to stretch their defence and build his confidence. Think he might.

Hopefully the side today will be motivated by the opportunity to stay in the side that will play against ManU. I predict the starting line-up will not change but hopefully the execution will.

    Just seen your post
I don’t think Defoe will get much flak
    His relationship with Bradley Lowery
means folk will cut him a lot of slack

I take your point. But my feeling is we will separate the personal Bradley issue from his makem heritage…

The team need to produce a sparkling performance today as the two previous matches were dire and only the late win against Palace prevented howls of protest and a barrage of criticism against the players and manager.

If Rafa plays Joselu it may be a key moment in his Newcastle career as, its arguable, he hasn’t done much in the previous two games to justify his place. If Mitrovich doesn’t make the team or bench then we have to question Rafa.

The same goes for Perez. Hard working but seems to have lost some cutting edge. The same is true of Ritchie. Really need to see goals from him.

I think this may be a difficult game.

as a human being Defoe is up there with the best of them,
but the minute he steps on that pitch he’s the enemy
no doubt he’ll be out to do us !!!!!!

What do you consider the top 5 games for us this week?

My own view is that we are still in a battle as we have had a reasonable set of fixtures so far.

My best five games for us this weekend would be simply for the bottom 5 clubs to get beat. It is possible and our win is included in that set.

Dire and howls of protest? Really? Two hard fought PL games played by a newly promoted club with virtually the same team. A team that has been in with a chance in every game played. Give yer heed a shake man!

I am not a huge fan of Perez but the only reason I would leave him out is that he must be aware of the criticism. He must feel some extra pressure and that has an effect. Diame seems to be on a bit of an upward curve having been recently chinned (that could have been a decent tear up, two big lads!) so I would give him a shot today.

Jail still looking up then? In everything else in life I would probably be with you but I will still be genuinely delighted to settle for 17th this time. Hence my view that keeping as far away from the bottom is key.

People need to remember that when we don’t often hit the heights performance-wise at the moment. We are in the waiting room this season.. Rafa knows it, most of us know it.

But tune in to the blog this afternoon to see an alternative viewpoint.

In my eyes, as a life-long born-and-raised Newcastle fan what Raf has done for us fans and the club in such a short space of time, under very difficult circumstances and having an obstructive, vindictive liar of an owner is nothing short of miraculous. We’re easily 5 or 6 new players away from being a top six team so i’m just incredibly grateful that we have a truly world-class manager with the integrity and courage that we really havent been used to or expected. To hear people moaning about ‘negative’ tactics is hilarious, given that we are already over achieving in the best league in the world. Just enjoy the ride, and imagine what is possible if someone gave Rafa a decent kitty to improve our team.

One of eds advertiser’s is delivering malicious flash objects and he really needs to sort it out its getting like those streaming sites.

You either need to turn flash off in your browser settings every time you visit the site, or leave it off and enter all your “safe” sites (just the top level domains – still laborious) into an exceptions list, or use a separate non-flash browser for this site. A pain.

Agree with wayayman, it may seem negative play at the mo but we havent the quality all over the pitch to play gung ho! we’ll score more than you routine. Rafa is getting the most from comparatively average bunch but they are playing to the best of their ability and grinding out wins by the odd goal but not letting many in with a well organised defense. I will take this style of play until the new owner comes in. 2 or 3 real quality signings in January will give the side a real boost and push to the 2nd half of the season. If we win today we will have 17pts from 11 games. 1.54 pts per game. This tally should make about 10th spot but dont think ( hope ) staying up should be a great concern. CAC
