Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player In Surprise 1-0 Defeat?

Let us know who you think Newcastle’s best player was in today’s very disappointing 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth at St. James’ Park in front of a sold-out crowd.

Our inability to take the numerous chances we created in a 30-minute spell in the first half cost us the points today.

Rafa must bring in maybe two strikers in January – players who can put the ball into the back of the net.

The lack of that ability in the side is starting to cost us points in the Premier League.

Steve Cook – heads home the winner in the 92nd minute

Did I say it was a really disappointing result today?

Wagner would be a better manager than Rafa for Newcastle..would bring the free flowing football back to the tyneside after a long time..

All i want is a manager who will take risks to win games. How benitez set ups to start with would have been fine if later on hed take risks to win i.e. get on 2 strikers up top or throw more players forward how they used to in the 90s. for example is a team was losing they usually get another striker on and take one full back off. Or to win games like todays get 3 strikers on to win the game and get that goal.. i mean its bournemouth at home not bloody man city!! My recommendation would be Prandelli, Tuchel, Ancelotti. Id love conte but hes going back to italy after chelsea. Id love sarri aswell but dont see him leaving napoli anytime soon

I myself think their is still the risk rafa himself will walk out. I think being put up for sale has given rafa reason to still remain as club manager himself but if by jan we are still owned by ashley and the signs of a take over are not shown rafa himself might well be looking at walking out. The only thing stopping it would be ashley himself allowing rafa some money to bring in a striker decent enough to score goals.

We must avoid dragging ourselves too deeply into the relegation fight because the further we go into it the less keen an owner will be in buying us.

Tsunki “how are we not largely a championship squad?”.

We have a squad of players with top flight experience on PL level wages. Yes, we did have the best squad in the championship, people were talking about Newcastle possibly being the best squad to ever play in the Championship and Shelvey the best ever player to play in that division.

Elliot & Darlow have PL experience.
    Yedlin
    Clark
    Mbemba
    Lascelles in PL quality
    Merino
    Shelvey
    Diame
    Ritchie
Atsu, played for Porto and a Chelsea product, lower PL level
    Gayle
Mitrovic with 9 goals in his first season in a very poor side
Joselu has plenty of top flight experience, ask him if he would play in the Championship, it wouldn’t happen

I am unsure how you could equate our squad as being mostly Championship level. There is no other Championship side that could afford our squad, nor could likely lure any of our players.

I wouldn’t swap our side for the players Burnley and Bournemouth have. The side is clearly a lower half PL squad.

    msk21dec,

If we could get a new owner before January and if he is prepared to spend big and if there are quality players available it could conceivably be more ‘ifs’ than is realistically possible.

But that is not to say it cannot happen. Sometimes Father Christmas comes early.

Tsunki im just laughing as you said that me saying it cant be any worse with mitro in is ridiculous and then you say with your own magic that it would be “very likely” the same if mitro had had the same run of games

First of all, yes I thank Rafa for solving out our defence, but in attack we are really bad, we are crying for Mitro, Joselu is shite, Perez is shite…Mbemba is also better than Manquillo, even Haidara is much better, Aarons better than Murphy. I do not know why Rafa always stick with Joselu, Manquillo, Perez, but I think it is because they are Spanish. Mitro would boost our attack, alone better than Joselu and Perez and Tsunki, you made fools of everybody, only you and Rafa knows, others dont….we have better options, he did this with Shelvey last year, then it was clear he was our most influential players, same was with Sels, he made mistakes at every attemp and he still put him there. We have better options, for now this is our best team I think….Elliot-Yedlin,Lascelles,Lejeune,Mbemba-Ritchie,Shelvey,Hayden,Atsu-Merino-Mitrovic….bench Haidara, Clark, Colback, Aarons, Diame, Gayle….Joselu, Manquillo, Saivet, Perez, Gamez on the stand

slank, with Benitez style of not taking any risks to win games I dont have much hope to be honest even if we spend 500 mill in january. Its not just about having world class players its all unleashing these players to win us games not hold them back which i believe benitez is doing. hes too defensive minded. I dont see us being sold before january as tbh i expect an announcement of a bid being made by now to have any of chance of that. If we get sold it will be after season end i think as it makes more sense time wise and the checks that goes on nowadays. its not easy to buy a football club than it was before.

@Mister Tuff your definition of what constitutes ” a step too far” is a bit arbitrary.
In my opinion, launching a PERSONAL and UNPROVOKED attack of any kind on another poster (for respectfully voicing their opinion) is a step too far.
If you disagree, then lets agree to disagree.

“All i want is a manager who will take risks to win games”

you’d likely get just as crap and boring a game if pep himself was manager. Taking the risk to win games requires a team to have strikers capable of scoring goals alongside midfielders who’ll create them alot and score the goals missed by strikers but right now our side has no decent striker at all, we can create chances from the likes of richie and shelvey but actually scoring goals is still poor even for them because such crap attackers means defenders can be more spread out to cover the threats shelvey and richie pose.

toonking, not quite. you see to take risks what you can do is get mitro up top with joselu. go direct and have players like atsu, ritchie, gayle in box when mitro and joselu get any knockdowns and that should keep bournemouth boxed in. not doing stuff like that gives bounemouth a chance to play as theyve done all 2nd half and take risks going forward as they know they wont be boxed in as they should be by a home team looking to win. stokes deadly weapon is crouch on last few minutes to win knock downs. its a tactic used to get a goal thats needed. benitez doesnt have that kind of thinking in his head. benitez style is ‘change personnel and see if they can do better than the guy theyve replaced’

The best form of defence is attack, so the old addage goes.
If Mitro was on for the last fifteen minutes it would have kept their back four thinking and even back peddling which interrupts their counter attacking options and we could have seen out a 0-0 draw but Eddie Howe out thought Rafa and that’s a concern.

I’m reading all the comments here and thinking how is it that so many people have short memories. Rafa knew what he needed in the transfer window and sadly he was not supported – It’s not his fault that Mr Ashley didn’t want to spend his money – yes today’s result was a massive disappointment but we have to trust in Rafa to get the best results out of a “thin squad” So for now get behind Rafa and the team and lets hope we soon have a fairy Godmother to inject some cash into better players for our team!

Do you really want another Pardew or McClaren in as Manager? So be careful what you wish for!

    “Eddie Howe out thought Rafa”
He didn’t arrange for us to have a good goal disallowed nor for us to miss half a dozen chances in the first 30 minutes did he? No he was just lucky cos had we scored then, we would have won!

Thanks Rafa for keep playing Joselu. Ffs, Elliot probably can do better than him as a striker as well as any striker in the club including youth academies. Joselu just cant play football!
