Turkish Football have reported that Newcastle are still interested in Besiktas central midfield player Tolgay Arslan in the January transfer window.
The Newcastle scouts had been watching Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun this season and have become impressed with the central midfielder who is versatile and can play as an attacking midfielder or in the holding midfield position.
The news is that he was impressive in last week’s Champions League game 1-1 draw at home to Monaco, and Newcastle scouts were there watching the game – Cenk Tosun scored Besiktas’ goal.
Rafa Benitez is said to be keen to sign the 27-year-old midfielder in the January transfer window
The German-born midfielder who has Turkish parents started his career at Borussia Dortmund, and he could be a good addition to the Newcastle squad.
27-year-old Tolgay Arslan – Besiktas central midfielder
While he was born and raised in Germany in Paderborn, he has Turkish parents and played for the Turkey Youth sides at U19 and U21 level before then playing for the German U20 and U21 teams.
Since he joined Besiktas in 2015, he’s made 88 appearances with 2 goals and 9 assists.
Crystal Palace are also said to be keen on the player, but we expect Rafa Benitez to go after as many as four players in the January transfer window with two of those players being strikers and one being a left-back.
And Rafa is likely to have to sell before he can buy – that’s if Mike Ashley is still the owner.
But it seems Rafa is willing to sell Aleksandar Mitrovic, Jack Colback, and Dwight Gayle to get sufficient funds to bring in new players at the turn of the year.
Rafa is said to have two lists of players – one in case Mike Ashley is still the owner – and the other in case we get a Christmas present and have new owners by then.
New owners are likely to give Rafa significant transfer funds to spend in January.
We are hoping we have new owners, but a deal must be struck soon for that to be possible.
