On the Newcastle injury front with a lot of games coming up before the end of the year it’s important we have our players back fit to play.
There was some good news yesterday about Christian Atsu who had a muscle problem.
The winger has been passed fit and has joined up with the Ghana squad for the World Cup qualifier against Egypt, which takes place on Sunday.
And he’s one of Ghana’s best players and has been nominated for the African Player of the Year – although there are 30 nominations.
Paul Dummett – back in early December
Captain Jamaal Lascelles is awaiting more information after having a scan on Monday on his ankle injury, but no new news on Jamaal.
One of our stars this season, 21-year-old Mikel Merino, could be out for several weeks with a back injury, but at least treatment has started for the Spanish U21 International, and we hope he responds well to that.
This is what Rafa said about Merino:
“We have to start treatment. It depends how he responds to the treatment.”
Mikel has been a big miss for the side, and we have lost the two games he’s been out injured.
Local lad Paul Dummett has been out since the very first game of the season with a severe hamstring injury and is now back in light training and could return to action in early December – according to Physioroom.com.
So that’s the latest on the injuries that we have and Rafa could remain coy on these with our next game being a huge test at Old Trafford a week on Monday.
A draw in that game would be an excellent result for us.
