Aleksandar Mitrovic hasn’t had a look-in at Newcastle this season, and with the team finding goals difficult to come by, it’s a bit of a mystery why Rafa hasn’t played Mitro more this season.
But he hasn’t, and in our last game against Bournemouth, Rafa preferred to bring on Ayoze Perez and Jacob Murphy in the second half and Mitro was left on the bench.
So given that Rafa doesn’t want to play the Serbian International, it seems sensible to at least get some money for him in January as long as we can bring in another striker.
Mitrovic has been in good goalscoring form for Serbia and has now scored 9 goals in the last 11 Internationals and he scored this week against China with a header in the 1-0 win.
There’s also news in Serbia that Mitrovic will leave Newcastle in January.
The report is in Mondo and says the player is dissatisfied with the playing time he has been getting at the club.
It also says that he doesn’t feel he has the confidence of manager Rafa Benitez.
The report is that both Brighton and Southampton are now interested in signing the player in January and being Premier League clubs, maybe they can come up with a decent transfer fee for him.
Mitrovic was signed from Anderlecht in the summer of 2015 for around £13M, and Rafa would want more than that if he sells him in January.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored 17 goals and has 10 assists in 68 appearances for Newcastle.
This season he has made three appearances and scored 2 goals.
Here’s Mitro’s goal against China this week – in case you missed it.
