Newcastle Could Be Priced Out Of Move For Prime Target In January

Rafa Benitez has already met with Steve Nickson, Newcastle’s head of Recruitment this week to discuss scouting and which players Newcastle will be after in the January transfer window.

To ensure we are a Premier League side by May Newcastle need to bring in some players who can score goals and Rafa is likely to try to get several players through the door in January to improve the overall quality of his squad.

The most important player(s) we need are strikers, and hopefully, Rafa can bring in two strikers this January whether or not Mike Ashley is still the owner by then.

Newcastle have been interested in 26-year-old Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun for some months now and have watched him a lot this season.

He seems to be the real deal who could do a job for Newcastle, but there’s news that Tottenham may move in for him.

So who’s going to be the person who tells Cenk he will not get many games at Tottenham with Harry Kane there?

Cenk would become the number one striker at Newcastle if he does join us in January.

Besiktas are quoting around £17M for the striker, and the Chronicle are reporting that will be too expensive for Newcastle – but at some point, Newcastle will need to pay the going rate for strikers.

We paid £5M for Joselu in August, and although he can lead the line well, we still got a £5M player.

Steve Nickson seems to be doing a good job for Rafa with his team preparing reports on various players from their scouting across Europe.

If the owner is still Mike Ashley come January, then Rafa is likely to bring in a couple of players on loan (it’s cheaper that way) and see how they do through the end of the season.

Rafa can also sell players like Jack Colback and Aleksandar Mitrovic and use the money to bring better players into the club before the summer transfer window.

Hopefully, by next summer we will have new owners in place, and nothing will be able to stop us then.

That’s the hope in any case.

🙂

If Mitro goes, as I suspect he will, we have to get at least £17m. for him. His international scoring record is starting to look very impressive and he’ll do well under the right circumstances.
The sale of Mbemba, another whose face doesn’t seem to fit, and Colback, another, should enable us to up that £17m. and still have a bit over for a left back/midfielder.

Rafa wants a striker who will defend from the front which is why joselu and perez play most games , not conceding is the current game plan with the squad we have , boring but effective – would you take safety this year and something to build on or more free flowing football and almost certain relegation battle with our current squad

Jail, I ain’t hounding rafa out etc. Only low hanging fruit like tsunki think that. I’m not saying rafa is stupid, far from it. But we know that stubbornness is a key trait of his and sometimes this can be a bad thing. It seems a no brainer to give mitro a go. Joselu gives us slightly more mobility, that’s about it.

If he’s been linked with Tottenham and Liverpool you could only assume we wouldn’t be able to afford his wages. As the club currently stands that is.

Mitrovic has 2 goals in under 2 games this season. He got 3 goals in 5 pre-seaseon. He’s got about 9 in 11 with Serbia last year. And he did well in the games he actually started last year. He’s definitaley capable of scoring more than Joselu and probably Tosun. The Turkish league is far worse than the championship, even Ameobi was banging them in for one of the weeker teams. Tosun has no more than a half decent record (90/38…9 of those penalties) for the best team. If he can only get a handful of goals in Turkey when he’s getting tonnes of chances per match, how many will he get in England when we create next to nothing? Another thing about Mitro is we could get £20-30m for him if he bags a few goals at the World Cup.

Strange thing is, if we were linked with mitro for the first time now, most of us would be excited.

Tosun has never been prolific, he’s not even that good if truth be told. The other option is ings who has just come back from 2 back to back horrific injuries.

Mitro will be sold, hopefully abroad and not to someone in this league, if he goes to Southampton or Brighton he’ll end up haunting rafa as it’ll be clear rafa has dropped a clanger by letting him go. Let’s stick with the toothless 3 rafa that’ll ensure safety

Also I detest posters with a hidden agenda that are out to cause mayhem on Ed’s website , Its a hard game keeping this website going over the years I imagine and I would hate to see it populated by seething Jealous supporters of other Football clubs. It’s good to root them out.

If what Jib says is true and Runaway777 posted ” F@*k you Rafa” then I think that’s a disgusting comment from a seething Jealous mackem plant ..but only if it’s true mind.

    this striker has good stats..

Fyodor Smolov has been the top scorer in the Russian Premier league the last 2 seasons and has 8 goals in 10 appearances this season for Krasnodar. he is also fluent in English.

I never realised Shola was in the second tier. It’s still a cack league though and I’d never pay that much for someone from Turkey, not when you could good championship strikers like Wood for £15m or whatever. There’s a real shortage of strikers at the moment, probably because Chelsea have about 600 of them sitting in their reserves.

I often wondered who Oldgit1 was, didn’t really come on to talk about football but to have a pop at other posters. Last night was really strange, he started ranting in a very angry way so similar to a recently departed poster. If he has been posting as Bobbybee then that makes mad Berb the biggest hypocrite that this blog has ever seen.

My apologies to our resident Dane but I’m plumping for the RoI tonight. We haven’t got any Danes in the team but have two current Irish international’s and one who with hindsight might still be here who I’d like to see at the World Cup as he deserves it.

jail – looking back over last night and other “entries” by oldgit1 previously – it is definitely bobbybee.
Same phraseology, same targets and abuse all encompassed in an out of control raving endless rant.
His artifice and sneakiness wasn’t that bad initially but his out of control behaviour and responses did for him and ended up like a covey of quail being flushed out of cover. The idiot is certainly no Scarlet Pimpernel. More like a Dead Dandelion.
Good laugh though – now he’s a multiple – best laugh was his comments about Ed’s blog ….” the behaviour of some posters on his site must be disheartening for him.”
Classic his other personality wishing a return on the blog of his other personality.
    Sad sad state of affairs.
