Rafa Benitez is again very straight when he was asked by the local press what Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic had to do to add to his three appearances (2 goals) this season.
And Rafa was consistent in saying any player not playing in the first team has to work hard in training and then when their chance comes along – make the most of it.
Of course, Rafa will say that about any Newcastle player not starting for Newcastle, and that’s the attitude he wants to see from his players.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – in training
The Newcastle manager was asked what Mitro had to do to get a game, and this is how he responded to that – as reported in the Shields Gazette today:
“It’s the same for everyone. “The players who aren’t playing at the moment have to carry on training and training hard.”
“And then if they get an opportunity, make the most of it.”
“Dwight Gayle was working hard. He was unlucky to get his goal disallowed against Bournemouth, and this was it.”
“I wasn’t unhappy with the 4-4-2 formation,” “It’s more about the players you have available.”
“Sometimes this season we’ve been playing it already. In defense, sometimes we are playing 4-4-2.”
“The system changes when we go forward. “It depends on the job they have to do and the characters in the players.”
“Mitrovic can fit into the system – why not?”
The news recently about the January transfer window is that whether we have new owners or not in January, there will be transfer funds available for Rafa to bring in new players to strengthen the squad.
One of them will definitely be a striker, and we could see the Serbian striker sold in January.
