There’s an interesting and detailed report out in the National newspaper in Dubai on Amanda Staveley’s latest bid for Newcastle United.
Both parties are in deep discussions now with owner Mike Ashley taking a hands-on approach to the negotiations.
Adrian Bevington was born in Middlesbrough and he was the Club England Managing Director at the Football Association, a position he held for five years from 2010.
Adrian Bevington – incredible buzz about Newcastle as a football club and football city
The National report quotes Adrian as follows:
“Former English Football Association executive Adrian Bevington said that ‘the club has the potential to be a giant in the Premier League’.”
And this is what Bevington has said as quoted in today’s National report:
“There’s an incredible buzz about Newcastle as a football club and a football city.”
“The growth potential is there in terms of money and success both on and off the pitch.”
“Domestically, they’ve not won a trophy since 1969 so anyone who lands a trophy will be incredibly popular and lauded for eternity up there.”
“Then there’s European opportunities as well, if you invest properly in a team, we’ve seen what happened in recent years with Manchester City and Chelsea.”
Of course, Newcastle fans would already say we are a giant in the Premier league – a sleeping giant.
Rafa Benitez, with the help from the Amanda Staveley consortium in terms of both support and funds, can wake the club up and turn Newcastle into one of the top teams in Europe.
Now, if only Mike Ashley would agree to sell the club for a reasonable price to Ms. Staveley – we could really get going.
Comments welcome.

However if Ashley rejects the deal and decides to stay, resulting in Rafa walking, I will have to give up on supporting the club after 60 years of mainly bad times.
You sir are not a real supporter
Unfortunately – it’s black and white whatever for me .

If this goes tits up and Rafa walks there will be an exodus even free student, armed forces and hospital tickets can’t bridge. People have had their fill of him and it’s time for him to go.

Comment #88The appointment of Rafa was smart by Ashley. I believe he knew that he would be hounded out of the club had we been relegated under a different manager.
Rafa bought him time, very smart indeed.

Comment #89If the club isn’t sold, I will find it difficult to renew. It has to be sold, Ashley will lose all credibility if it is not sold and no-one will take him seriously again.

I thought my comment would provoke comment and I understand why you would say that but having an owner who has no ambition other than to make money out of us and no intention of trying to win anything long term is just a waste of time and energy. It’s like throwing games in a way and just feeding the top six who will eventually win everything. What makes it worse is that Ashley is one of the richest owners in the league. Yes, I admit I would still support the shirt, but not with the passion I have now which brings me to tears when we score a goal I’m so passionate!

Comment #98Supporters of many years standing will know that Sir John Hall did threaten to move the ground elsewhere – not for personal gain/greed -as suggested/inferred but to gee along the City Planners to agree the planning application for the new ground. His threats worked.
However the stadium, was never built, due to a lot of local protests.
JIB – you need to read up on club history man instead of giving a half cocked version.

Comment #102Just a thought; apparently Amanda and Rafa go way back. Is it possible that Rafa came in the first place because he New they were going to bid for the club? Or, did Amanda and PCP only get interested because of Rafa being manager?
Any thoughts lads?

Re generation thing.
I watched from the paddock during the Seymour and Westwood and McKeag eras too. The difference then was that we were relatively successful and still thinking of the cup wins of the fifties. Actually, with better management and not selling players we could have won the league, unlike now!

Albert Adomah’s goal puts Aston Villa ahead against Sunderland in Chris Coleman’s first game as Black Cats boss.
And Bolton are winning as well for now
