There was news last night that Amanda Staveley and her PCP Capital Partners group have put in a formal offer of around £300M for Newcastle United.
The news is that is expected to be turned down by Ashley and the news is in the Times that it’s a take it or leave it offer.
But if Mike Ashley really wants to sell the club before the end of the year it’s also very possible a deal could be agreed rather quickly – but again – if he really wants to sell the club.
Maybe split the difference and Amanda could off around £340M which is halfway between what Amanda offered and what Mike Ashley wants.

If a deal can be arranged quickly then Rafa Benitez will have some big money to spend in the next two transfer windows and that’s got to be very good for the club.
Rafa’s patience while he’s been at Newcastle and had to deal with an awkward owner could pay off for him nicely.
This is what Rafa deserves for what he has already done for Newcastle in a short 20 months.
There’s some new news from Sky Sports on the deal as reporter Keith Downie has reported.
There we have it. https://t.co/nqLWLkGIKR

We understand both sides remain convinced a deal can be agreed, with a new bid from PCP Capital possible before the end of the week #NUFC

The provision about getting compensation if Newcastle relegated could have come up in the last few weeks when we have lost our last three games.
But if the club is sold and Amanda Staveley gives big money to Rafa in January then surely the chances of getting relegated becomes very small indeed – but still possible.
We’d be surprised if that is a big deal in the negotiations, but maybe Amanda Staveley would want back at least half of her money if relegation did happen.
Let’s hope a deal can be agreed quickly – before the end of the week would be excellent.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

That’s a bit ridiculous of PCP. Ashley could counter it by saying (although implausible) that if they win the Premier League or qualify for a European Tournament he wants to be paid more.

Comment #2This could be a bit of tit for tat, Ashley will want his free ads and club merchandise stored in his warehouses plus sold in his shops.
Pcp probably suggested a religation clause to test his nerves, you can’t have all the cakes and eat them all.
Begone you horrible slug

If he wants to keep ads etc he’s restricting our future earnings it’s a good shout to ask for a religation clause, a reality check of sorts

Comment #4To me, the most worrying aspect of the news, if correct, is about installments.
If the buyer cannot cough up the full amount without resorting to installments how can they cover the ongoing expenditure of the club.
I hope there has been some misreporting or misinterpretation of what has been reported.

It’s all.part if the negotiations.
It strikes me that it’s a case of some fine tuning and the parties agreeing a form of words such that Ashley hasn’t lost any face.

I think I can safely say that by sharing your insights with us, you’ve kept the lid on some unsettling fan discontent during our recent poor run of results.

Comment #6Mike sells his shares for 380 million which he got offered 300 million plus the 80 million no doubt in instalments as this will keep him in regards with Newcastle meaning he can still advertise his brand as being a shareholder BUT he would need to pay Newcastle for advertising his brand!?
We all know Mike has made millions from us through advertising and it still makes the same if not more, so if this is the case the 80 million could be injected back into Newcastle which will let Mike advertise for X amount of years until the 80 million is depleted.
There’s other ways Mike can keep his brand in Newcastle, shirt sponsor could be included in the deal after fun88 have expired, so Mike could put 40 each on shirt sponsor and adverts for let’s say 4 – 5 years and we all know how he likes his 5 year deals?
Something to think about guy’s

In all good negotiations both parties try to achieve a ‘win, win’ outcome for both parties.
I would imagine that Ashley gets what he is asking for but in a slice and dice way.

Comment #10Work out how much Ashley has saved via advertising his crap all over St James’s Park then deduct that from the cost paid to buy the club.

The deal for the property has to be closed and cleared funds in the sellers bank by midday 22nd December…that I do know. If he misses that deadline them my mate as underbidder will do the deal on the same day.
I also know from Ashleys perspective he wants the money from the sale of the toon cleared and in his bank by the 15th December
That’s all easy done…they’ve got just over three weeks to finalise the instalments and advertising bit…the deal is 90% done and MA will make sure it gets done.

Comment #12Just my thoughts based on what has been published and how things have gone within the club that we know about, which is very little really. If Mash is going to sell and does not want another possible relegation with its drop in income and he is not willing to invest he is one a slippy slope. Our club in my mind is like a FTSE stock ( he will relate to that ) and we the fans a re the investors, at the moment we all subscribe to the club as it is back in the top league with the best manager we could wish for. Now if Rafa walks because the deal falls through or any other reason really, Mash is going to loose his investors ( fans ) and the club could be relegated ( stock ). This would immediately more than half the value of the club so I can see why Ms Staveley has reservations. If Rafa walks the value of the club will fall also and the club will be in turmoil again, so for me he is the linch pin for the whole deal, as he will be the stabilising factor in the months to come. In summing up IMHO there has never been a better time for us to get rid of the parasite who has plagued our club for a decade, I just hope there is no sting in the tale where his hatred of us makes him turn down a good deal just to spite us. After all he has the money to do so and he would be proving a point to himself.

Comment #13If it’s true the request is not ridiculous because Ashley is much more likely to get the club relegated than winning the title.
