Newcastle Finding It Difficult To Score Goals – Here’s Why

Jonjo Shelvey is filling in for captain Jamaal Lascelles while Jamaal is recovering from his ankle injury and we hope the 23-year-old will be back soon although he’s not available for the home game against Watford on Saturday afternoon.

Jonjo had a decent game at Old Trafford last Saturday in the 4-1 defeat and he looks like he’s coming into some good form at an important part of the season with lots of holiday games coming up.

Newcastle, are finding it difficult to score goals this season but it was good that Dwight Gayle scored his first goal of the season at Old Trafford and hopefully, he can go on a goalscoring streak for the upcoming games.

Jonjo Shelvey gets instructions from Rafa Benitez last Saturday

Jonjo had been interviewed in the Shields Gazette today, and he explains why it’s more difficult to score goals against Premier League sides:

“The players are a lot more tactically aware in this league, and it’s a lot harder than the Championship.”

“You probably get a lot more time on the ball, but the defenders are in better positions, so it’s a lot harder to create chances and score chances.”

“At the end of the day, we’re doing all right. We probably just need to score a few more goals.”

“It isn’t just down to the attacking players, either. You need to chip in with goals from all over the pitch.”

“That’s something we’ll keep working on, on the training pitch, and hopefully it’ll pay off.”

The top scorers ar Newcastle at the moment are Mitrovic, Joselu, and Lascelles with only two goals each – that’s not many for a top scorer at the club after 12 league games and a cup game have been played.

Here are the goalscorers so far.

so far he hasn’t stood in the way both parties are still at the table and still talking
it’s obvious he’s going to want the best he can get he was never ever going to cave in at the first bid,
its all a lot of posturing as both parties want the best deal they can get

just keep the faith this deal will go through

that’s why he’s still at the table he has to know this his best chance.
PCP know this as well and that’s why there trying to turn the screw
a compromise will be reached and soon that suites both parties

    the deal will go through

The main problem is because Rafa wasn’t given the funds to buy the striker he wanted even though he did as asked and reduced the wage bill. Instead, he had to settle for Joselu for £5 million, depend on Gayle who is ‘injury prone’ and Mitro who he won’t use as he doesn’t trust him. It’s nothing to do with players being more tactically aware, and as far as the rest of the team contributing, of the 11 goals scored only 5 were scored by strikers with 5 non strikers chipping in. The results are there for everyone to see.

Here’s hoping the deal is still on, however I’m sure it is and they’ll both come to agreement. It is interesting to note the very different valuations presented for southampton and everton as benchmarks. Also I hope some of my fellow bloggers can stop acting like keyboard warrior children. Remember we are United and shouldn’t be divided. We should all want the best for our club and our city. Its about time some money got invested in both.

I think the despondency from fans, players and Rafa will be enough to relegate us if the deal doesn’t go through – fatty will then never get anything like 300 million , Rafa will walk and we’ll end up like Sunderland as Fatman sells any player worth their salt and consigns us to championship mid table mediocrity

if rafa really wanna solve the striker problems lack of goals…
then maybe he should give mitro a chance which i dont think
he ever has not since we went down. a minute here and
there dont show his potential and dont do the kid good at all
we all know he soon to be a gone but what a waist if he do end up
fulfilling his true potential at another club. just like mbabu who is
doing great with young boys he is better than manquillo on his worst
day….somethings rafa do i dont understand at all. i do want rafa
to stay and i do respect his ability as a coach much better than those
clowns before him(after br era) .but like i said somethings i just dont
    dont agree with !!

ps hope this takeover happens soon been celebrating way too early
    hangover for nothing daammit….

You know what they say……… “You can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time” Never a truer word said eh? The thing is it’s Rafa who is the boss and he’s a fantastic manager – we have to trust in “Rafa the Gafa” I would like to see Mitro in the team but I understand 100% why he is not! He’s a fully committed player but sadly “a loose cannon”

Gayle showed against Man U that he is coming back into form. No way will Mitro get into the starting XI.
On the takeover front, Ashley will not want to invest any money (or as little as possible) and he must be aware of the dangers of not investing, that is why I am pretty sure the deal will go through in one way or another. If it doesn’t Mr Ashley will be crying into his beer. I don’t blame PCP for biding their time. Also if the deal isn’t done by January, the offer will drop and he won’ want that. The inescapable fact is Ash Wants out.
