Rafa Benitez had just finished talking to the press about tomorrow’s very tough game at St. James’ Park against Watford – who are in 8th place in the league on a very good 18 points.
The good news is Mikel Merino is fit to start tomorrow which is really good news and we were wrong this morning thinking he wasn’t ready having just watched his nufcTV interview when he seemed not ready.
But he ha trained with the squad yesterday and today and he is ready to start which is very good since Isaac Hayden is suspended after picking up 5 yellow cards at Old Trafford.
Newcastle have lost their last three games to Burnley (they have won their last 3 league games), Bournemouth (they have won their last two games) and Manchester United and Rafa Benitez will be hoping to end the slide and hopefully get a win tomorrow.
We are still fairly well positioned in the Premier League in 11th place with 14 points from our 12 games but we have to start picking up points again and have a tough schedule coming up – 10 games to play through January 1st.
Rafa Benitez – at his press conference
Here’s some of what Rafa Has said – starting with the injuries:
“Merino is available and is ready to start if necessary, which is good with Hayden’s suspension. Dummett, Atsu and Lascelles are still recovering but are not ready”
“Every player in the squad is in my plans. In the case of Mitro, I know about the World Cup. Gayle was top scorer last year and he came back. It’s simple they have to work hard to come back and be ready.”
“I’m seeing what is on TV and have no other information (on the takeover). What has been done or if it’s been rejected doesn’t affect us.”
“I am watching the news and I see it, but I have no more information. I just prepare the team in the training sessions for the games”
