Rafa Talks About The Difficult January Transfer Window During His Press Conference

Rafa talked about the January transfer window during his press conference this afternoon for the home game against Watford tomorrow.

He admits that January could be quite difficult because he may not know how much money he has to spend and what the status of the potential takeover will be at that time.

But he has pinpointed the players he wants to buy who will improve the side – and we suppose it’s a case of how many he can go after – depending on how much money he is given to spend.

Cenk Tosun – top striker target for January

Rafa has also pointed out the players don’t talk about the takeover and that his job is to start to win games.

Here’s some of what he has said this afternoon:

“January is always quite difficult. We don’t know about how much money we will have yet with the takeover situation.”

“For now, we are just looking for good players, and those who are better or different than what we have.”

“Then we’ll see what we can do”

“It doesn’t change too much, you’re looking for good players and ones available.”  “Even with a new owner, it won’t change because of financial fair play rules.”  “We have to concentrate on what we can do.”

“The players don’t talk about the takeover. I was speaking with 3 players earlier and we were talking about the Europa League and other things, not that.”

“We don’t discuss that, we focus on getting ready for our games.”

“It’s important to start winning games. But my message is very clear – we are doing what we have to do, maybe we could have been more consistent for 90 minutes.”

“But we have to improve and put in a 90-minute display.”

“Marco Silva is doing well at Watford. They have been in the PL for a few years, have good players and he has made some good changes to them.”

“Every game is a tough game for us in the PL”

Those comments will be a veiled communication to Amanda Staveley who is working hard to try to get some agreement on the price with owner Mike Ashley.

It’s also a message to Ashley too,  and both sides have said they would like to complete the acquisition by the end of the year.

We hope that’s possible but until then Newcastle have to start winning some of their games.

Interesting that he mentions financial fair play. Potentially means we will have the max budget available without breaking the FFP rules if he is thinking about it….or is that just wishful thinking

Watford is a must win game after that damaging defeat to Bournmouth. Our football is good and Merino back is good news.Any slip up,esp at home is unacceptable and is digging a hole for ourselves to sink in.May be he should slot Mbemba back at lb.Ever since he got dropped, the back 4 looks vulnerable and conceding goals that can be preventable.

Watford is a must win? How’s that? Player for player they are better than us. They are playing great football. With Richarlison, they have a potent weapon upfront. He’s a player ayoze should have been but no where near.

It will be another backs to wall performance. A scrappy draw will be a good result.

He will mention financial fair play as the season we went down we spent quite a bit and we would have lost money in the relegation season even with all the sales.

I got told – end of next week (wrapped up)

    Also the 1st bid was a 300 million bid over 6 years – 50 million a year

He wants 350 million all in one go ?

Pcp- wanted half back if relegated ?

I took it all with a pinch of salt but that’s what he said

Also said deal will defo happen though, too far down the line and pcp won’t give up
