There was late news yesterday that Newcastle are in communications with another potential bidder other than Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners group.
We were told there were other groups doing due diligence at Newcastle and some groups started that process long before PCP Partners did.
So this second group shouldn’t come as any surprise although there was some local news last week that Amanda Staveley was now the lone bidder – that is not true if this latest report is accurate.
The Telegraph are reporting there is a second group who are currently in talks with Newcastle officials regarding an acquisition.
Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley – watch in pain
But it also appears that no offer that has been made by this second group – only that they are in talks with Newcastle officials.
There’s very little detail in the Telegraph report – this is it:
“As takeover talks rumble on in the background – Telegraph Sport understands that Newcastle are now talking to another interested party, as well as Amanda Staveley.”
So not too much detail there on the second potential bidder for Newcastle.
With Newcastle starting to struggle in the Premier League, if Mike Ashley is unwilling to put in a relegation clause for the second bid from the PCP Capital Partners group, that bid could well be doomed.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Things turned quickly with the crowd on Saturday – some left at half-time, many more left well before the end. This looks like Ashley’s moment to get out, before the smelly stuff really hits the fan.

Comment #5Calling him Ashley, as opposed to Mike or even the owner certainly seems a bit shocking, and suggests there are problems, maybe even with the sale, but certainly between the two of them. They may have had words over this poor run. It’s come at entirely the wrong time from Ashley/s perspective and he’s just misguided enough to have put it on Rafa and inquired why a 5 million pound a year manager couldn’t have squeezed a few more points out of this group.

I was very vocal in letting people to the left of me streaming out on three goals. So much so I completely missed the family who sit right next to me leaving . I thought they were alright as well 🙁

Comment #10There is no exclusivity deal in place.
The club was put up for sale…allegedly 3 parties commenced Due Diligence.
Please ask yourselves why ashley would grant exclusivity to the first party that makes a bid when he hasn’t seen what the other two are bidding. It’s not how it works…no-one has exclusivity in what in essence is a public auction.
You get granted exclusivity if you approach someone on the quiet when they are NOT publicly up for sale. NUFC was very publicly put up for sale and he created an auction. No-one gets exclusivity in an auction.
I know for a fact there are some north east based people still interested and are one of the three parties mentioned above. Canny bidders know not to bid too early…they’re sat there lapping up all this journalistic guesswork and they’ll bid as late as they can.
Everyone knows the deadlines…PCP blinked first and made their bid public.
Some real toon fans are sat there waiting in the wings. Whether they get anywhere with it I don’t know…but I do know they’re still involved.

Comment #12If this story’s been placed by Bishop, it may have been with the intention of giving Ashley a face-saver – given his silly demands bounced by PCP.
A fantasy scenario:
Ashley dreams up second bidder and suddenly he and PCP agree the sale – albeit, but unsaid, on PCP’s terms. That allows the media to believe they’ve compromised and Ashley’s gained some ground.

Comment #13Ashley as far as I am concerned is finished here he has no choice but to sell up and go full lock stock and if he doesn’t there be 2 smoking barrels coming straight from the supporters if everything goes tits up that’s for damn sure

shire said there was now an exclusivity agreement in place with PCP which struck me as strange as surely we would have heard about it.
i can’t believe a geordie consortium would have anything like enough money to be really competitive.

I’ve got the same horrible vision of how this will pan out and I am 49 years on from my first game. shameful how much this club has under achieved with a right rogues gallery of owners

Comment #16If history has anything to teach us and potential buyers, NUFC are a good gamble if you have the money and the manager in place to establish a team that gets results.
It wouldnt surprise me if there are 3 bidders in the wings, It wont surprise Amanda Stavely either who really doesnt want the publicity, knowing it will encourage competition and drive up the price.
We as avid Mags know that we support a sleeping giant, others with the brass and brass neck to buy the club are in some cases just waking up to the idea.
