Alan Shearer was relieved (weren’t we all) to see Newcastle come back from 2-0 down with 35 minutes to play to get a deserved point at the Hawthorns tonight.
It didn’t look good when West Brom went 2-0 after 54 minutes since we have had trouble scoring goals recently.
But we got the two goals we needed to get what was a good point and we are currently positioned 12th in the league table on 15 points after 14 games played.
Let’s give the lads credit because a lot of teams would have given up the ghost and we would have lost 5 games in a row – this away point should give our lads confidence but we still have to tighten up at the back.
Feared the worst after being 2-0 down, but great character shown and a very good point in the end. #WBANEW #PremierLeague #NUFC

Comment #3I wouldn’t say we came storming back… not at all more like a well converted corner and slightly fluke own goal from a free kick. It’s time for yedlin to get given a rest he’s not a rb for playing in a back 4, he’s more of a winger/wingback would work well in a 3centre back system. Joselu was shite as per and Hayden had a poor game also.

Comment #5Not quite the tight game I was thinking and I’ll take 2-2 even though the longer 2cnd half went we looked as though we could snatch it especially with Phillips limping. Rot stopped but very difficult game on Saturday. Away fans were brilliant as usual.
Rafa was obviously thinking it was job done at end of first half until that slip up. Have only seen goal once but good cross in and several defenders in centre so not entirely Yedlin’s fault although he is current whipping boy. The goal was a typical killer blow in these type of games where we don’t over commit in first half.2cnd nearly killled us off completely and it was vital we got back into it as soon as possible which we did and set us up for our best play of match.
I understand Rafa wants to keep to it tight away fom home but a little more invention and attacking might get us the first goal in these sort of games ( not Man U) and put us in better position.
Plenty of food for thought for Rafa but I doubt he is going to change tactics for Chelsea but he can and should change personnel

in 2015/16 Mitrovic started 22 matches and featured in 34 and we were relegated.
Rafa is starting Joselu and we are just about doing ok.
Rafa knows what he is doing. he is managing games and the season.
even if Mitrovic is better than Joselu you don’t always start your best players. it’s call tactics and strategy.

Yes sir I did watch the game.
It was exactly as expected first half until a moment of genuine quality opened us up.
Mitrovic deserves his chance now though. I agree.

Comment #11Manxpie – Rafa’s “in control of the first half” is just Rafa speak for “we were holding on to a planned 0-0 position….until they scored ! At which point his game plan to snatch a 1-0 win for us went out the window again. At least unlike the Brighton and Huddersfield games we clawed a point out of this one.

Can we assume you weren’t keeping up with events in the summer.
For crying out loud man, Rafa was working on the assumption he had a budget to work to in the summer window and to get the best out of it, he had to clear out some players to both give some headroom in the payroll budget and raise some cash to buy players.
The writing was on the wall early in the window when players he wanted to sign and possibly lined up either went elsewhere (eg Abrahams) or their signings held up (Lejune for example). And who was behind those failures? Surprise surprise it was Ashley through his bully boy, Barnes. After kicking up in the media, Ashley must’ve realised or was advised that it might be useful were Rafa put in picture over the proposed sale of the Club.
The result? Rafa left with a few quid to play with and the result of that is a squad that’s ill-equipped for the Prem and one of lowest wage-bills in the Prem. Working on the premis that you get what you pay for, our slide is evidence of Ashley’s I going stupidity and greed.
Does that help you understand why we are where we are – in the more unless Ashley sells up and ships out – smartish.

So lol. Joselu has started 12 games but let’s bother not putting in any context of relegation team to this team. Meaning our central defence and central midfield is much better now than then.
Rafa does know better than us, doesn’t mean making mistakes is not something he is capable of. For example, disregarding hamsik at Napoli, persisting with insigne as a striker, wanting to replace alonso with Barry. Replacing Alonso with aquilani, continually starting Joselu over mitrovic.
True it’s about starting the best team rather than best players and using different tactics. But do you think that we play better as a team with Joselu than mitrovic? Disregarding goal records. Including goal records then it’s a no contest in my opinion.

Comment #20We were dreadful until we went two goals down, why do we have to give teams a head start, I seriously have to look at Rafa at times and think why, as much as I like the guy and want him to stay, I also have to ask myself at times why do I want him to stay, Rafa is a conundrum, and I still havent worked out if he is good or just bog standard, past history is meaningless, now is what matters and having the best players in the world elsewhere and succeeding means nowt, what we need is a manager at our level, and that aint Rafa, new owners and Rafa may well be the man for us, without new owners we need big Sam

Comment #21MitroVic is getting his chance ..he had 24 mins tonight.
The worry is always about his temperament…stick him on from the start and there’s a nervousness that we could be down to ten men in a short time, also referees seem to have his number , he has been sent off for fouls that most man u man city players would only get a booking for if thatit’s easier for refs when it’s a middle of the road outfit..as we are at present..I don’t think it’s about his ability overall …just the afore mentioned… Rafas got to trust him , winning that trust will take a few more sub appearances.

Comment #24Will willingly take the point, but Rafa, you really do need to look at the players your are putting your trust in, Yedlin is not a defender, nor will he ever be, first goal Evans just left him for dead, second goal totally missed the cross from the right.
Joselu, its better just to say nothing, he is so poor, yes he runs around but thats it. The same can be said about Perez, his contribution to the game is very little, was highlighted by chasing a WBA player back into his own half, then fouling him, and from the free kick WBA were back on the attack and putting Darlow under pressure.
Murphy looked OK, but no one to play with, so he ended up trying to beat everyone. Ritchie put a decent shift in, Defence in general (except Yedlin) did OK. Mitro surely has to start Rafa.

No nervousness from me that he’ll get sent off. Twice in his Newcastle career not really a lot. Think shelvey has been sent off twice by the way in his Newcastle career.
But yeah, agree with your first point lol. 24 mins!! Not on,y that, we weren’t losing by 3 goals like v man Utd and Watford before he came on.
