Rafa – Football About This – More Money Equals Better Team – And Vice Versa

It may be difficult for Rafa Benitez to fortify the squad in January for at least two reasons.

One is he may not get the money if Mike Ashley is still the owner and the second is that the fees being quoted for players are continuing to rise to ridiculous heights.

In his interviews yesterday, Rafa talked about a player he was interested in and was quoted £50M for him – when he obviously wasn’t worth that fee.

Rafa Benitez – more money – better players –
better team

This is what Rafa said as reported in the Chronicle:

“When I was at Liverpool people were saying: ‘You have to win the title.’”

“I was checking the last 10 years and the team that was winning the league – Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal – and they had the largest wage bills,”

“Who are the top six wage bills now? They are the top six in the table. Simple.”

“We have just arrived in the Premier League. Some teams like Watford and Burnley have been here two or three years, and the wages and transfer fees that they pay are bigger than us.”

“It is a fact.”

“The prices that you paid for two or three years ago is nothing to do with the prices you pay now.”

“I was talking with an agent one hour ago, he was telling me: ‘This player is £50M.’”

“I replied with: ‘£50M?’ ‘Yes, because in China they pay £50M.’ But he is not worth £50M, but we know these are the prices.”

“But we cannot control that because the agents they are the first ones who are interested in keeping the prices high.”

“When you have the money you can buy them.”

“When you don’t have the money, how can you compete? ”

“To go early. We were there to sign players early in May. That is my point.”

There was a big effort in May last year to get some players in early in the summer but it failed miserably, and Rafa was not happy.

Once the takeover is completed – if it ever happens – it will be interesting to see what role Lee Charnley takes.

We don’t expect him to leave the club, but he may take on a different role in the new regime.

He may no longer be the main person on transfers.

And if Amanda Staveley is successful in her takeover bid it looks like she could become the Chief Executive of the club so it would appear she could be hands-on.

It’s now looking doubtful a takeover can be completed by the end of this year

    slow down ed!!!!

    sparky

shire said there was now an exclusivity agreement in place with PCP which struck me as strange as surely we would have heard about it.

i can’t believe a geordie consortium would have anything like enough money to be really competitive.

    Charlie

I’ve got the same horrible vision of how this will pan out and I am 49 years on from my first game. shameful how much this club has under achieved with a right rogues gallery of owners.

    Geordie mark

ash doesn’t give a rats what the fans think and never has.

Seeing how Ashley is behaving in this takeover, scrimping for every penny makes you wonder just how much he has taken out of the club over his 10 years.

    We may never really know

    Shire, Hibbit, Sparky…..

Anything you hear boys please continue to share.

i don’t buy into that theory,

a good coach can work wonders with average players, but the players have to buy into the coaches ideas.
some player just think they have made it because they earn good money and don’t put any effort in, just kick a ball

    Bah Humbug!!!

But I think the club Ashley have missed the boat/

a month ago we were sitting pretty mid/top half of table – bid on table – but Tubs wanted his pound of flesh – should have taken 300 million when offered and sold.

But the way of the World – GREED took over

Results going against us – be lucky to get over twenty points by January 1st

Price of the TOON is going down game by game as they squabble over prices – friggin’ like bargain hun.

Ash just cut your losses and go!!!!

Sparky was the initial source and offered the timescale that still looks accurate (ash possibly behind this leaked second bidder to push Stavely on) and we just have to hope.

The Geordie linked bid might be that other party you never know, I would be happy with that.

Shire and Hibbit will hopefully hear something as the week progresses

    Meanwhile in Denmark.

Ashley will be livid about the leaked bid as he wont be able to lie about the deal should it not materialise. I really think he will pull the lever as he’s clearly had enough .His position is becoming more and more untenable particularly after Rafa’s statement lumping the blame for our losing streak on him.

No one can know with any real accuracy what the details are regarding the takeover. These negotiations take twists and turns every few hours. With wor Mikey being as he is and capable of a stubborn unpredictable decision at any time, this is a momentous period in the history of our club. This sale really has to happen for the future of the club, the fans , Rafa and also Ashley.

The lads who have been updating us on here are obviously getting good info. from behind the scenes and seem to be more clued up than the media as they told us first so keep it up lads we are all hungry for any snippets of progress.

A lot seem to think rafa knows a takeover is happening hence why he’s talking the way he is in press conferences. I think it could be viewed as he’s ensuring he gets the sack of the takeover doesn’t happen so he gets a payoff as he thinks a takeover isn’t likely.

Seems odd the way he’s behaving at present, very similar to how he went on with gillett and hicks.

    geordie mark

I used to think boycotting was the way to go to get ash out, but as it was pointed out to me, gate money is easily dwarfed by TV money these days. However, if ash stays and a 3rd relegation becomes a very real possibility, ash can say goodbye to a lot of TV money

I’m hoping for a positive result tonight, id even take a point. A world class manager should be using more of this squad and getting more out of it than what he currently is.

Apparently now the udders and Brighton teams seem to be better than us when clearly 99% of fans said we had the better squad. I’ll repeat we may not have been able to compete with certain clubs but how many of udders and Brighton players would we have bought in the summer? None is my guess

I actually said due diligence when I
    meant non disclosure
    From The Grauniad mid October
Although Staveley’s interest has quickened pulses on Tyneside,
Ashley is unlikely to get his wish of being rid of Newcastle by Christmas.
“Since Monday, a number of additional parties have come forward which we believe to be credible,” said Andrew Henderson, Ashley’s lawyer, on Thursday. “We are [also] continuing to engage in conversation with a number of parties with whom we were engaged in negotiations prior to Monday’s announcement.”

    Our Toon,
People say that about every manager we’ve had. Pardew should have been getting more out of that works by bunch of mercenaries that McLaren promptly got relegated. Rafa did get more out of them finishing with a 5-1 humping of Spurs. He sat down and told Ashley what was needed and Ashley nodded his fat head in agreement and done the opposite. Keep saying the manager should be getting more out of the team isn’t doing anyone any good.

Fact remains is that Ashley is caught between a rock and a hard place.

If he wants to sell before Christmas, he needs to do it now because any later will surely miss the window.

If he doesnt sell, he runs the risk of further disaffection from the fans, an unmotivated team and a manager he failed to back looking for a way out.

His asset will devalue to the point where all he will get is petty cash as he watches this once great club tumble down the leagues.

He has no option but to sell………..and PCP know this

    Yeh Mr Ramma.
    He’d be a good owner.
The rap version he did of his advert was class.

Ashley has had the club up for sale for ten years. Even when it was not officially up for sale any Shieks out there who wanted a Premier League club knew they could have his for the right money.
But, no one showed an interest. So, can we really believe now that there are 2-3 seriously interested parties.
I think it will only be PCP. The big question is who is behind PCP.
Will Ashley know. I doubt it if it is a big hitter. Why? Because he would hold out for more money if he knew it was a big hitter. PCP is possibly a means to not fully show their hand.
    I hope so anyway.
I’ll say it again. Unless you have mega bucks you’d be mad to by the Toon.
