We have missed Mikel Merino, Jamaal Lascelles, Christian Atsu and Paul Dummett recently.
And Dummett has been out since the first half of our first game against Tottenham with a serious hamstring injury but he should be back before the end of the year – hopefully.
Mikel is back fit again and hopefully, he will start tonight at the Hawthorns.
Jacob Murphy has looked very good in the last two games he has started – and offers an attacking threat up front so we haven’t missed Christian Atsu too much.
Jamaal Lascelles – Newcastle have missed him
Murphy can also score goals and he’s now looking to be a good buy for Newcastle with Rafa having held him back as the gaffer says he has learned a lot and has become a better player in training.
This is what Rafa has said about the three injured players:
“Each one is different,”
“Dummett is training but still he needs to have the confidence that he can sprint at 100% and all these things, so still a little time.”
“Atsu is still recovering but still a couple of weeks, we will see how he is going on with his recovery.”
“Jamaal I have been talking with. He can run, but still he needs to manage it a little bit when he has to turn. How long? Not for this game.”
“Chelsea? Very difficult for all three.”
The player we have missed the most is Jamaal Lascelles the captain.
Since he’s been out we have looked too porous in defense with Lejeune still getting to grips with the Premier League.
The game after Chelsea is a home game against Leicester on 9th September, a week on Saturday, so maybe Jamaal can be fit for that game?
